My last unto you was of the 15:th Instant, but by an accident it lost his conveiance for some parsee man that sold the Governours man lemmon water from Surratt Came to me for letters, but being Jealous of the persons they would returne them to the Governour to ouse [?] I sent them to Bassin[1] by an express to deliver them there, but the parsees both returned to the fort & did not proceed at that time by which meanes the letters lost their first Conveianace we must be very cautious we are not surprised here in our actions although I miust confess I vallue it not for I have not neither will I act nor write any thing dishonourable to his Majty Interest or proidentiall to any of our Nation but shall to the utmost as by boundon duty endeavour to promote to the one and assist the other on the 17:th Currant therewere soone five saile of Shipps off this place the one of them came in to this port being the Mamodie of Goga Norhoda Makmud[2] poore (sic) Bhay the contents of her cargo I have heere Inclosed sent unto yo:e Worh:p the occasion of her stopping here in this port was for water for two Elephants she hath aboard for Oram [OR Ocam] Zobb[3] but our Governour hath made Seizured of her & Cargo, for his losse he received at Surratt by Sauvagee,[4] for that the whole Nation is like to be Involved into an Importinent trouble for the meanes of one selfe opiniated person he hath sent an express whrefore he hath done it but in my opinion an other opportunity, and with order would have beene more warrantable, but these obsurdities are usuall here with us and we must beare them y:t I must confess I am sorry that his Maj:tys Interest and the welfare of our Nations hould Incurr the danger of a losse & cume in these parts through the wilfull Ambition of a dishonorable Ignorant person, I beseech yo:r Worp you would be pleased to advise how it fareth with you for I am confident it will goo hard with you there by reason of this affront committed on the Mogulls owne Goods & like wise those of his Subjects, it will lye very hard upon yo:r Worh:p to Compasse it I pray God to assist you with shall be the dayly prayers of him who who [who repeated twice in manuscript] shall ever Subscribe himselfe
