Joachimus Smit civitatis Stetis in Pomerania in XXXX
Suecia Nauta, [?Navart] his dictos navis, annos natus 62 aut
circiter testis in propario examinatus deponit ut sequitur, videlicet

That his said shipp was built at Stetin and is about 20 yeares old, and
hath alwaies belonged to that port, and saith that hee this deponent hath bin
master of her for two yeares, and that Godfrey [?Swelling?Xever] is owner of
halfe the shipp, Peter May a quarter parte and [?hammot] [?Trosse] a widow a quarter
part, and are all Inhabitants and natives of Stetin and Subiects of the king
of Sweden, and that now Hollander, Dane or ffrench hath any share therein. And
saith that in June last there was with his said shipp at Amsterdam whether hee
had carried dantz Rie for dantzickers accounts) and was then freighted by a dane
named hanse Crist to goe to Longsound in Norway to fetch a cargo of deales
and Spanns for Amsterdam, which voyage the said hanse went him and
bought the said goods, and (the said shipp returning therewith to Amsterdam)
the said hanse there sold them upon his owne accompt and then this deponents
said owner having sent for and ordered his returne home to Stetin, hee
was returning in ballast, and comming in in such his returne to the [?fflie] at
such time as the English set the ships there lying on fire) hee hardly escaping
burning among them, was taken with his said shipp by the English fleet and
sent to harwich where his shipp now lyeth. And saith his company were seaven
man and a boy all Easterlings, videlicet his stiersman of Bremes, and a
common man of Stralsund, and all the rest Stetinners. And that his
mate fearing to be burned, forsooke him and fledd in his boate, and left him
alone as this shipp when hee was taken, And that his papers were delivered
upon [?XXXXX], and none made away.
