the Bon Jesus, alias}
the Guift}

John Chandler of Poplar in the County of Middlesex
Mariner, aged 47 or thereabouts, worne as in the
acts of Court and examined upon certaine Interrogatories
ministred on his highneses behalfe saith as followeth.
To teh first article hee saith and deposeth that hee was
present at the taking and seizing the shipp the Bon Jesus
alias the Guift interrate; which seizure happened off Tolon on
the 27th of July last old stile, at which time this deponent
was belonging to and was Lieutenant of the [?Tredagh frigot]
which had command of other two frigats
namely the Jersey which boarded the said shipp the Bon
Jesus, and of the Yarmouth, which at that instant was out
of sight, And saith that upon the approach of the Jersey
frigot, all the company of the Bon Jesus betooke themselves
to their boate at eight leagues (or thereabouts) distance from the
shoare of Cape Tolon, and forsakeing their shipp fledd in
their said boate ashore of this deponents sight and knowledge.
