hee was neeer soe that by his ignorance the sayd shipp and her companyes
lived were much endangered not knowing where to finde a
Port to put into this hee deposeth being an eye and eare wittnes om
board And further hee cannot depose./

To the 4th hee saith hee well knoweth that the sayd Mabb did at Portugallott
arlate arrest the arlate henry Greene and left the shipp the Hector there lying
and keptfor some cetayne dayes a shoare and fetched his cloathes a shoare
by an Officer of the Alcaldo there, and thereby put the sayd Greene
to much trouble and some unnecessary charge this hee deposeth being an
eye and eare wittnesse thereof And further hee cannot depose./

To the 5th hee cannot depose

To the 6th hee saith that at the tyme arlate hee was often on shoare and therefore
knoweth not what order was left by the the Captaine Greene touching the [?wood]
arlate, but saith hee sawe some of it which was dammaged carried away in a spanish boate
and some more of it which was dammaged throwne over board into the
River but by whose order hee knoweth not And further to this article
hee cannot depose./

To the 7th hee cannot depose of his certaine knowledge only hee
saith there was a disturbance raised amongst the Company of the Hector
but by whose meanes hee knoweth not. And further hee cannot
depose./

Rich Owner of the shipp the Chapman of}
London (whereof Nicholas Trevrire was}
Master) her apparrell tackle and furniture}
touching the losse of the sayd shipp occasioned}
by the subiects of the King of Portugall}
Colqueit}

Examined upon an arlate allegation given in on the part and behalfe
of the sayd Robert Rich

Thomas Ewen of Lymehouse in the parish of
Stepney and County of Middlesex Mariner aged forty
sixe yeares or thereabouts a wittnes sworne and examined
saith and deposeth as followeth videlicet./

To the first article hee saith that hee this deponent being at Lisboa in Portugall
in and during the arlate Moneths of March Aprill May June July and August 1651
did in the sayd moneths jeare the arlate Nicholas Trevire (who was then
commonly reputed to be Master of the arlate shipp the Chapman) saye
and affirme that the arlate Robert Rich was Owner and Proprietor
of the sayd shipp And further to this article hee cannot depose/

To the second article hee saith that in or about ffebruary or March 1651
(new style) hee this deponent being then at Lisbone did there see the sayd
shipp the Chapman under the Command of the King of Portugalls
officers
