The third of October 1655. [CENTRE HEADING]

Examined upon the foresaid allegation.

Antonio Fernandez Caravashall of London Merchant aged
56 yeares or thereabouts sworne and examined.

To the first article of the said allegation hee saith and deposeth that
hee by correspondence well knoweth all the persons producent
arlate and hath soe donne for many yeares namely some of them for
theise twenty yeares and those that hee hath knowne the least time hath
bin for theise six or seaven yeares, and well knoweth that all of them
for theise six or seaven yeares last and some for or much longer space
have and still doe drive a constant trade from Lisbone to Roane, and
to Amsterdam and other parts with sugar, tobaccoe and other merchandizes
and have and doe lade sugars and other goods at Lisbone to be transported
to those places and paarts for their proper and respective accompts
and have their factors and agents at Lisbone for that purpose, amd saith
they were and are all merchants of good accompt and reputation, all which
hee knoweth because frm London hee correspondeth with them, and receiveth
many dispatches from them in order to their said trade at the said places
And otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the second third and fourth articles and the severall chests of sugar and quintalls of
Brazill wood and other commodities therein severally expressed and marked as in the margin of the
said articles is set downe, said to be laden at Lisbone aboard the shipp
the Thirstie hart the time arlate for the accompts of the severall persons
therein specified, hee saith hee verily beleeveth that the said goods were
laden aboard the said shipp for the accompt of the said persons as in the
said articles is deduced, having seene attestations sworne before
a magistrate to that purpose, and the bills of lading and factories remayning in this Court
declaringe the same. And otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the fifth and sixth articles hee saith and deposeth that hee verily
beleeveth the bills of lading arlate to have bin signed by the master of the
said shipp, and the contents thereof to be true, and to be soe had and donne
as therein is expressed, seeing those that were found aboard and
brought into this Court to agree with the said attestations, and having had
speech with the master and being by him informed of the truth thereof,
and otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the seaventh article and the severall goods under the respective markes
therein specified hee saith and deposeth that it hath bin and is an usuall
thing for merchants lading sugars at Lisbone aboard a hollands shipp
to be therein transported for haver de Grace to make consignement of the said
goods to Amsterdam, to the end that if the market prove not goods for them
at Roane they may goe thence in the said shipp for Amsterdam, and
to that purpose they use to write to their factors or correspondents at
Roane or haver de Grace, and in that consideration alone hee beleeveth
the goods arlate were consigned for Amsterdam albeit the shipp was to
goe for haver de Grace, all which hee knoweth being a marchant that
hath longe used the trade of Lisbone, whereby hee is well acquainted with
the premisses. And otherwise hee cannot depose.
