Transcription

January 1654. And that the said License was delivered
into this deponents custody at Saint Christophers, and that from
thence he brought the same to fflushing and from
fflushing thither, and that therfore he well knoweth it to
be the very same License that the said Governour
Everary subscribed And further he knoweth not to answere

To the sixth and seaventh Interrogatoryes he answereth and
deposeth that the shipp interrate was taken and seized on
with her lading she being under sale in the West Indies
on the 23rd day of ffebruary last past (old stile) by Captaine
John Clarke Captaine of the Selby ffrigatt
belonging to this Commonwealth, that at the time of her
seizure there were aboard her about 30ty thousand pounds
worth of Ginger, about 10 thousand weight of sugar
and about 359 Rolls of Tobacco But he saith he
knoweth not what is the value of the said commodities, And
that he this deponent the Master of the sayd shipp and
all the Company of her were turned ashoare, and
exposed to much hardshipp, And he answereth that
the said sjipp the Popingay being soe taken and
seized was with her Lading carryed away with and
by the said ffleete under the command of Generall
Pen, And further he cannot answeare./

the sayd Thomas Smith and alsoe against Arnold Beake}
and Company comming in for their interest et cetera Suckley}
ffrancklin}

Examined on an allegation on the behalfe of
the sayd Roger hatton and Company./

Thomas Perkins of Poplar in the parish
of Stebenheath and County of Middlesex Mariner
aged 29 yeares or thereabouts a witnesse
sworne and examined saith and deposeth as
followeth videlicet./

To the first article of the sayd allegation hee saith and deposeth that during all
the tyme arlate videlicet during the yeares 1654 and 1655 and monethes therein
concurring the arlate Roger hatton Samuell ffoote and Company were and
still are commonly reputed the true and lawfull Owners and Proprietors
of the arlate Shipp the Exeter Merchant her tackle apparrel and furniture
and hee saith that the arlate Thomas Woodfin during all the sayd tyme
was and is Master of the sayd shipp and had the government thereof as
Master during the sayd tyme, and was (as hee beleeveth) constituted Master thereof by the sayd
reputed Owners, And saith that hee hath well knowne the sayd Woodfin
for these twelve yeares last past, during all which tyme of his knowledge of
him the sayd Woodfin hath bin and is and able Seaman and well experienced
as master and somtymes as Masters mate and hath performed the same well
and
