druntam in Norway and from thence to returne to the downes there to
receive order to what port to goe And further to this article hee saith hee cannot
depose./

To the second hee saith that the sayd Master before his goeing the sayd voyage
wanted a pilott to his shipp the sayd voyage and saith hee well knoweth that
the arlate Richard ffar[?e] did shipp himselfe within the tyme aforesayd in the
says shipp to goe and did goe Pylott of the sayd shipp the voyage in question, and
did take upon him the voyage and care of pylotting the sayd shipp the sayd voyage
at a certayne rate agreed upon betwixt the sayd Master and him but by
reason this deponent was not present at the agreement hee knoweth not what
rate the same was, but hath heard the sayd Captaine saye the rate agreed on
betweene them was tenn pounds and that the sayd Richard ffare had receaved
of him forty shillings in parte of it before hee the sayd ffare proceeded
upon the sayd voyage, And further to thisa rticle hee cannot depose/

To the third article of the sayd libell hee saith the sayd Richard ffare is a
very aged man and as this deponent beleeveth and gueseth by being conversant with him
the sayd voyage about fowerscore yeares of age, and this deponent knoweth that
hee is very hard or thick of hearing (which hee conceiveth by reason of
his great age) and alsoe knoweth that hee wanteth an eye, and beleeveth by
reason of his age the other eye left cannot choose but be dimme and weake
and be a great hinderance to him in discerning any sands or lands which hee
cometh neere in any voyage and inder him much in due performing the office
of a Pylott although hee were formerly (which this deponent knoweth not
nor hath heard) able in that sort of imployment And further saving
his following deposition hee cannot depose./

To the 4th 5th and 6th articles of the sayd libell hee saith that in the sayd ships
passage on her voyage aforesayd and before shee came to [?Orph?XXX]
nesse [?XXXkeing] among certayne sands called the Swimm the sayd Richard
ffare did not soe well knowe the sayd sands as to be able to shape the sayd shipps
course soe as to passe them in safety but was at a sand and knew not what course to shape which the master and this deponent aand
indeeede all or most of teh sayd shipps company takeing notice of the
sayd Master and company for the better preservation of the sayd shipp andtheir
lives did direct and shape the sayd shipps course while shee was amongst the
sands, and by Gods blessing on their industrie escaped them , which in all probabilitie
they had not donne if they had trusted to the sayd ffare his Judgment in shaping
a course for her in that place of danger And he further saith the sayd shipp
being safely past over the sayd sands sayled towards druntam and came
upon the Coast of Norway and neere land and for that the Master and Company had not formerly
gone a voyage that way and therefore knew not well the land they were neere
the master asked the sayd ffare what that land was called but the saud
ffare could not tell the name thereof nor where about on the Coast of Norway hee was, where upon
the sayd Master was much troublled to see the sayd ffare
soe ignorant in knowing the land, and did by the entreatie of this
deponent and others of the shipps company fyre two gunnes to see if a
pylot would come in a boate from shoare to tell them
where and upon what land or part of the Coast of Norway they were and direct them in their course buut none appeareing
