Transcription

that the sayd two English men of warr did carry the
Brest man of warr and the sayd shipp the Rappahanack
first to Gurnesey, and afterwards to Weymouth and
thence to Portsmouth, The premisses he well knoweth
being Master of the arlate shipp the Rappahanacke
and present during all the passages by him predeposed,
And further he cannot depose.

To the fifth article he deposeth and saith that before such
time as the said shipp the Rappahanacke was rescued and
retaken as is predeposed, the said Brest man of warre
had taken out of the said shipp the Rappahanack
five and twenty hogsheads of Tobaccos, All which the
arlate Captaine Cornelius did after his rescuing and
retaking of the Rappahanack, and his taking of the
said Brest man of warre, take away out of the said Brest
man of warre, and that he the said Captaine Cornelius
hath converted the said 25 hogsheads to his owne use
and that alsoe besides those 25 hogsheads a very great
quantity of Tobacco's aboard the Rappahanacke was and
is embezeld by the said Captaine Cornelius and his
Company converted by him to his owne use, and alsoe by the
Captaine Dirrick Captaine of the private man of warre
named the Hound and his Company And further he cannot depose
saving that the sayd shipp the Rappahanacke was
plundred and spoyled of many ither things aboard her
by the said two English men of warr besides the said Tobaccos
as a new Jacke, a new Auncient, divers armes and of
other provision for the said shipp besides his this deponents
wearing apparrell and table linnen to the value of
about forty pounds, and one of the best gunns splitte,
whereby the said shipp received great damage.

To the sixth article he saith that the same shipp
which was rescued by the said two English men of warre
from the Brest man of warre, was and is he very
same shipp called the Rappahanack, which went from
this Port of London to Virginia and in her returne homeward
was taken (as is predeposed) by the said Brest man of
warr, And further he cannot depose.

To the seaventh he saith that it is morst certaine that the
arlate Jefferyes and Company are subiects of this
Commonwealth, and that he beleiveth they are well affected
to the government therof, And further he cannot
depose.

To the last he saith his former deposition is true.

To the first Interrogatory he answereth that he was borne
at a place called Lassick neer Truro in Cornewall , and
that he hath lived above sixteene yeares last past
at Ratcliff in the parish of Stepney, and that he went first
aboard the interrate shipp in this River of Thames not
long before the said shipp went on her voyage for
Virginia predeposed of, and he answereth that he hath
