the non-payment of the said moneyes due unto him as aforesaid, hath in this
deponents Judgement suffered dammage to the valew of fourtie or fiftie shillings
hee being a Tradesman in whose occupation soe much ready money to bee
employed to the best advantae might very well produce in such a time a [?more GUTTER]
considerable benefitt. And further cannot depose:-/
To the 8th hee saith hee referreth himselfe to the proceedings of this Court:-/
To the 9th hee saith, That the arlate John Edge and Companie were and
are commonly accompted Englishmen Subjects of this Commonwealth and to the
Jurisdiction of this Court. And further hee cannot depose.
To the 10th hee referreth to the Acts and proceedings of this Court/
To the 11th hee saith his foregoeing deposition is true:-/

The same day Examined upon the said Libell:-/ [CENTRE HEADING]

John Jeffes of Rederith in the Countie of Surrey
Block=maker aged 21. yeares or thereabouts a
Wittnesse sworne and examined saith as followeth videlicet.
To the first article hee saith, hee this deponent very well knoweth the shipp the
Reliefe arlate, whereof the arlate John Edge was Commander in the
monethes of January ffebruary and March 1654. and in March 1655.
the said John Edge for all that time haveing the Care Command and the
govvernment of her, as was publique and notorious at Rederith and other parts
adjacent. And further, saving his subsequent deposition cannot depose:-
To the second and schedule annexed and now read unto him at the time of his
examination hee saith and deposeth, That hee well knoweth, That the allate
Thomas Lash the producent in this Cause was within the time by him
predeposed the true and Lawfull Owner of all and singular the goods and
Materialls specified in the said schedule, and did by himselfe or his servants
alsoe performe the worke therein mentioned, And soe it was commonly
accompted and reputed, This deponent for all that time and since being a
servant to the said producent, and thereby well knowing the premisses:-
To the third hee saith, That the said shipp the Releif within the time
aforesaid being bound forth upon a Voiage, and wanting such goods
materialls, necessaaries and reparations as in the said schedule is expressed
the said producent did furnish and deliver the same to the said John Edge
or his order from time to time to and for the said shipps service and use
at the said John Edge his desire, The premisses this deponent well knoweth
for the reasons predeposed. And further cannot depose:-
To the 4th hee saith, That within the time predeposed, the good and materialls
in the said schedule mentioned and valewed at the sewerall rates therein
specified were worth the severall prizes whereat they are rated, and that
within that time goods of the like nature and sufficiency (they being
good strong and sufficient Materialls) were commonly soe estimated and
sold by and amongst Blockmakers of those parts, The premisses hee
knoweth being himselfe a Blockmaker by trade and having therein
