The same day. [CENTRE HEADIMNG]
Examined upon the said allegation and schedule.
2.
Michael Robinson of the citie of Westminster gentleman
aged 44 yeares or thereabouts sworne and examined.
To the said alleagtion and schedule now read to him hee saith and
deposeth that on the fourth of January 1653 hee this deponent and his
precontest Edmund k[?elsall] togeather with James Bates were in company
of and with John Pibus mentioned in the said schedule and allegation
at a taverne at or neere Pauls-chaine London knowne (as hee taketh
it) by the signe of the Castle, where having discourse and speech
of and touching a certaine holland shipp, said to have bin seized by
him the said Pibus in the Martha in his comming from Greenland
and by him afterwards let goe againe, the said Pibus acknowledged and
confessed in all things touching the same, as in the said schedule is sett
downe, and being desired to give the same in writing, hee dictated it
to the said Bates, who wrote it from his the said Pibus his
owne mouth in all things as in the said schedule, and that the same
was both read ver unto him by the said Bates, and hee the said
Pibus alsoe read it over himselfe and acknowledge it to be to his
minde, and to be the truth saying this wll I never denie, and then hee subscribed his name thereto
in the presence and sight of this deponent in all things as nowe
appeareth, and in the presenence of the said kalsall and Bates, and
having soe subscribed the same, hee delivered it to this deponent, And
this deponent delivered it to Mr Budd proctor for the Commonwealth.
And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the Interrogatories. [CENTRE HEADING]
To the first hee saith thatthe said Pibus at the time of the said
acknowledgement, and of the said writing and subscribing the said note
was in the custodie of this deponent by vertue of a warrant ut of this
Court. And saith the said Pibus made the said confession and subscribed
the same voluntarily without any urging or threats whatsoever, And otherwise
saving as aforesaid hee cannot answer.
To the second hee saith they have made noe such agreement as is interrate
but this deponent meerly prosecuted the said bussinesse in behalfe of the
Commonwealth, without expectation of reward, and this deponent
endeavoureth to bringe him to a lawfull triall, and desireth Justice
may take place. And otherwise negatively saving as aforesaid.
