The sixteenth day of September. 1653. [CENTRE HEADING]

The Clayme of Paulus Cobrisse merchant,}
of Bridges for his moneyes in the shipe}
the Saint George whereof John Martyn.}
is Captaine taken by some of the Parliaments}
shippes. Bud Smith}

Examined upon an Allegation on the behalfe
of the sayd Paulus Cobrisse

John de Losa Barona borne in Segovia
in Spaine an Inhabitant of Limma in the
West Indies merchant aged forty yeares or thereabouts a witnes sworne and examined
deposeth and saith as followeth videlicet.

To the first Articel of the sayd Allegation This deponent saith and deposeth
that the arlate Paulus Cobrisse a merchant of Bridges in fflanders
for eight yeares now past of the knowledge of this deponent hath driven
a trade from fflanders and other places to Cales and Saint Lucar in
Spaine for plate and sylver sending severall merchandizes of
great value to Pedro Calvo a Spaniard an Inhabitant of Cadiz
being the correspondent and Agent of the sayd Cobrisse, and for and
during the sayd tyme the sayd Pedro Calvo hath as Agent and for the
Accompt of the sayd Paulus Cobrisse sent such merchandizes to the
West Indies and receyved back the returnes thereof att Cadiz in sylver
and plate, which he hath remitted and sent to fflanders to and for
the Accompt of the sayd Producent Paulus Cobrisse, All which this
deponent knoweth aswell by his correspondence with the sayd Paulus
Cobrisse as with the sayd Pedro Calvo his sayd Agent in Cadiz, this deponent
himselfe being the Agent and Correspondent of the sayd Pedro Calvo
doeing his busines of merchandizeing in the sayd Indies and
thereby being perfectly acquainted with the trade and traffique
of the sayd Paulus Cobrisse for plate and sylver as aforesayd. And
further He cannot depose.

To the second Article of the sayd Allegation This deponent saith and
deposeth that in the monethes of September October November and
December last past the arlate Paulus Cobrisse was and att this present
is the true and lawfull Owner and Proprietor of all and singular the
plate moneyes and sylver mentioned in the two bills of lading arlate
annexed to the allegation whereon this deponent is now examined that
is to say two barrs of sylver being of a fine alloy weighing two
hundred and seventene markes and six ounces of pure fine
sylver marked and numbred as in the margent. And allso two barrs
more of sylver of the second marke and numbers in the margent weighing
two hundred forty three markes of pure fine sylver. and allso ten bagges
of Ryalls of eight Coyne of Peru marked with the third marke
in the margent and sealed with the seale in the margent of the second
bill of lading annexed conteyning in the whole five thousand
peices of eight that is to say five hundred peices of eight in each
bagg. The premisses this deponent knoweth to be true for that he
receyved in the West Indies from the sayd Pedro Calvo for the Accompt
of the producent a great quantity of severall sorts of stuffes
of the manufacture of England with order to convert the same into
plate and returne the same to Cadiz, which this deponent did
accordingly and saith that the money and sylver now claymed [?were]
