Nicholas Pollhill of Weymout and Melcombe Regis in the County of Dorsett
merchant aged aboute 50ty yeares sworne before the worshipfull Basill Wurde doctor of Lawes and urrogate to the right worshipfull
Sir Henry Marten Knighte Judge of his Majestyes highe Vourte of the
Admiralty Saieth and deposeth uppon his oath That within
these six yeares last past hee this deponent hath necessarily
expended and layd out the somme of three thousand pounds
sterlinge in prosecution of the cause wherein hee this deponent
as and is complaynant against the priaticall ffacts and
depradations comitted by certaine Dutch with a shippe called
the Saint Peter of Rotterdam whereof one Michael Cornelius
[?Tsint] was late Captaine or master upon a prize called
Nostra Signiora de Porto Salvo taken from a shippe called
the Willinge Mide of Weymouth the
4th day of January Anno 1630, which prize the sayd shippe the
Willinge Minde had formerly taken with lawfull letters of
Marque or Reprizall under the greate seale of his Majesties high
Courte of the Admiralty, And that prize hee saieth was valued
to bee worth (at the tyme of the takeinge thereof) the somme of
thirtye thousan dpoundes sterlinge as appeareth by the
testimony of severall witnesses taken in the said Cause in
the Netherlands, and alsoe in his Majesties highe Courte of the
Admiralty here, the intereste of which some from the 4th of
January Anno 1630 until the 24th day of March Anno
1636 (after therate of 8 li per Centum) doth amounte unto
the somme of fowerteene thousand eighte hundred pounds
sterlinge, soe that the principall losses of him this deponent
and partners beinge as is deposed the somme of thirty thousand
pounds togeather with the Interests, and expenses as
before hee hath declared, doth in the whole amounte unto
the somme of forty seaven thousand eightie hundred poundes
sterlinge And this hee saieth is true by vertue of his oath
