4. Examined upon the Libell given in on the behalfe of the

8. John Avery of Ratcliff in parish of Stepney and
9. County of Middlesex Chirugion aged twenty three yeares
10. or thereabouts a wittnes sworne and examined saith and
11. deposeth as followeth videlicet/.
12. To the first article of the sayd ................ ˹Libell˺ hee saith that in the moneths
13. and tyme arlate the arlate Batson Beane and Golderne were
14. commonly reputed the lawfull Owners freighters and imployers of
15. the Greyhound arlate and the freighters and imployers of the Owners
16. Adventure arlate for the voyage in question which was a certaine fishing
17. voyage to bee made from this Port of London to Greeneland and saith
18. hee this deponent went Chirugion of the Owners Adventure the
19. sayd ˹voyage˺ and was shippd for Chirugion of her by the arlate Thomas
20. damerell who was and went Master of the sayd Shipp Owners
21. Adventure for the sayd voyage and had the Command not only of her
22. and her Company but alsoe the Command ordering and direction
23. of the Greyhound ˹aforesaid and her Company˺ (a small Pinke which was to bee assistant to the
24. Owners Adventure in the sayd voyage) And further to this article
25. hee cannot depose/
26. To the second ˹and third˺ hee saith hee this deponent goeing Chirugion as
27. aforesayd the voyage in question thereby knoweth that the arlate
28. Maundrye and Gosling did both of them serve in the sayd shipp
29. Owners Adventure as Masters Mates of the sayd voyage and
30. the arlate humfreys as one of her Company and a harpoonere
31. and that after their the said Maundrie Gosling and humdreys being hired
32. to goe the sayd voyage the sayd shipp Owners dventure togeather with
33. the Pinke Greyhound being well fitted and provided with all necessaries
34. for the sayd voyage the sayd damerell and his sayd Mates and the sayd shipps
35. Companyes sett sayle with the sayd vessells from Gravesend about the
36. twelveth of Aprill one thousand sixe hundred fifty sixe bound for Greene=
37. land and the sayd shipps were both committed to the care of the sayd
38. damerell and their Companyes were to be ordered by him And
39. hee saith the sayd shipps or vessells under the Conduct of the sayd
40. damerell safely arrived in Company togeather neere the Coast
41. of Greeneland and further saving his foregoeing ˹and subsequent˺ deposition hee
42. cannot to these articles depose./
43. To the 4th and 5th articles of the sayd allegation ˹Libell˺ hee saith that
44. after the Comming of the two vessells aforesayd neere the Coast
45. of Greeneland they in company of other English shipps put into the

47. miles all the shipps in Company made fast to the Ice togeather and after
