To the 4th. 5th 6th 7th 8th and 9th hee sa … To the 4th. 5th 6th 7th 8th and 9th hee saith that about a moneth after<br />
the Arrivall of the said ship the ''Bantam ffrigatt'' at Indra<br />
Ponza aforesaid the said Thomas Newman, and one ffrancis<br />
Griffith the then purser of the said ship (who is since deceased)<br />
did goe on shore, in the said port of Indra Ponza, to buy pepper<br />
and did buy a great quantity of pepper there, which was all<br />
to have bin transported in the said ship to Leghorne,<br />
for the Account of Sir John Dethick and Company aforesaid<br />
And saith a Considerable Quantity of the said pepper<br />
was Laden on board her, which did not Lade the said ship<br />
two Third parts of what shee could have well carryed<br />
and saith That while the Company of the said ship was lading<br />
in the rest of the said pepper which the said Thomas Newman and<br />
ffrancis Griffith had provided and whilest the said Newman<br />
and Griffith were on shore, providing More pepper to Complete Lading<br />
of the said ship, The arlate<br />
Comander of the ship the ''Turtle Dove'', whereof one Antonio van Voozt was Comander in the Service of the Dutch<br />
East India Company, and alsoe three pinnaces in the Company<br />
of the said ship ''Turtle Dove'', which were alsoe in the service of<br />
the Dutch East India Company, came all of them and<br />
Anchored by the said ''Bantam ffrigot'', and Imediately sent<br />
a Boate on board the ''Bantam ffrigot'', with a Dutch merchant<br />
therein and two others of the the ''Turtle Doves'' Company with him who Comanded the said Isaac Taylor, and the said<br />
Thomas Newman. (where upon the coming of the said Dutch<br />
Merchant and the two others on board the said ship was sent came<br />
on board, to the said Dutch merchant) Not to take in any<br />
more pepper or other Goods onboard the said ''Bantam ffrigott''<br />
either at the said port of Indra Ponza, or any other port or<br />
place on that Coast, for if they did the said Captaine<br />
van Voozt who was the Admirall in those parts would seize and surprize them, or to that effect<br />
and thereupon the said Mr Newman went with the said Dutch<br />
Merchant onboad the said ship ''Turtle Dove'' to speake with the<br />
said Captaine Van Voozst and knowe of him why hee<br />
would not Permit him the said Newman to Trade [?with GUTTER]<br />
his said ''Bantam ffrigot'' there, And saith that some [XXXX GUTTER]<br />
after The said Newman had bin gone to the said Dutch<br />
Admirall the said Captaine Isaac Taylor sent this deponent<br />
in the ''Bantam ffrigots'' Boate. to fetch the said Mr Newman<br />
from on board the said Dutch Admirall on board the ''Bantam ffrigot''<br />
And this deponent being come on board the said Dutch Admirall<br />
hee heard the said Admirall Voozst, say and declare unto<br />
the said Mr Newman that hee the said Voozst had Orders<br />
from the Generall of Battavia to hinder all English Shipps<br />
from Commerce and Trade in those parts, and to seize [?them GUTTER]<br />
if they did soe, or to that effect, and alsoe shewed the said [?Newman GUTTER]<br />
