Rodrigues Lamego, and by Letters mutually sent by and betweene<br />
the said Correspondents , which this deponent hath sene and perused<br />
hee this deponent is well assured That for all the time aforesaid<br />
the said Policarpio de Oliveira hath beene the factor Agent<br />
and Correspondent to and of the said Antonio Rodrigues de<br />
Morais, and Jeronimo and Raphael Rodrigues Lamego, and<br />
had a very considerable summe or valewe of moneys<br />
and effects of theirs in his hands and Custodie, as this deponent is<br />
induced fully and firmely to beleeve for the reason hereafter<br />
expressed, to witt, for that at or about the time of the providing<br />
lading and sending away of the said shipps Cargaison of fish as<br />
aforesaid, the said Antonio Rodrigues de Morais and<br />
Jeronimo and Raphael Rodrigues Lamego, by a letter missive<br />
sent unto the said Antonio fernandez Carvajal did amongst other<br />
things advertize him, that whereas they were indebted and<br />
ingaged to him the said fernandez they had a considerable summe quantity or value<br />
of moneys goods or effects of theirs in the hands of the said factor<br />
or Correspondent Policarpio de Oliveira, wherewith they intended<br />
to satisfie and pay the said fernandez for their said debt, or to that<br />
effect and purpose, And that in and by the said Letter, they<br />
did send unto the said fernandez a Letter of Creditor order<br />
onclosed and addressed to the said Policarpio de Oliveira importing<br />
that they did order and require him the said Policarpio to<br />
furnish and supply the said Mr fernandez with such moneys<br />
as he should stand in need of for the buying and lading of sugars<br />
shumacke, and Tobaccoes on board the said shipp the ''New England<br />
Merchant'' out of such moneys or effects as he the said Policarpio had<br />
of theirs in his hands, and that for the accompt of him the said<br />
fernandez carvajall, or to that or the like effect, which said<br />
Letters and writings this deponent did see and carefully peruse and<br />
observe, and well remembreth and knoweth, That by order and<br />
in the name of the said fernandez a Letter was written wherein<br />
the said order to Policarpio was inclosed by this deponent and by<br />
him delivered at the Poast house London to be delivered at dartmouth<br />
to the Master of the said shipp the ''New England Merchant'',<br />
to the end and intent, to be by him delivered to the said Policarpio<br />
de Oliveira, as it effectually was upon the said shipps arrivall<br />
at Porto Porto, as this deponent hath likewise seene and observed<br />
