at Whitechapell mariner aged fifty fower y[eares GUTTER]<br />
or thereabouts a witness sworne and examined<br />
saith and deposeth as followeth videlicet.
To the first second third 4th and 5th article or the sayd<br />
allegation hee saith that about the fower of five and twentieth<br />
of September 1653 on Captaine Richard fferne having<br />
cause the arlate vessel of shipp named the ''Minories Busse''<br />
to be rigged and procured some men to goe in her upon a fish[ing GUTTER]<br />
desygne for fishing for herrings neare Yarmouth and those parts did agree<br />
this deponent to goe the sayd voyage as Master and Pylott of her hee<br />
the sayd ffearne allowing to this deponent that<br />
share of such fish as should bee taken by sayd vessell that<br />
voyage but saith that hee this deponent was never constituting<br />
appointed Master of the sayd vessell the ''Minories Busse'' by the<br />
Corporation of the poore of London nor did they at any tyme p[ay?]<br />
him any wages for any service done in the sayd shipp nor give him<br />
any power or Commission to repayre the sayd Busse of take upon<br />
materals or hyre any men for the repayre therof neither did hee<br />
this deponent at any tyme take up any materials of the arlate<br />
Ambrose denison for William Ballott Valentine Elsing Henry A[XX GUTTER]<br />
kettle John Merrihurst or [BLANK IN MANUSCRIPT] Colt or any of them or of<br />
any other person whatsoever for repayres of the sayd vessell nor<br />
for the sayd voyage the sayd yeare 1653 or any, nor did hee<br />
ever demand any money of the Corporation aforesayd for the<br />
repayre of the sayd vessell, but saith as aforesayd the sayd ffearne<br />
(having provided such materialls and rigging and fitted her therewith<br />
according as he the sayd ffearne thought good, and procured<br />
men to sayd in her the sayd voyage) hee agreed with this deponent<br />
to go in her as Master and Pylott for the sayd voyage (this deponent<br />
to have noe wages but only a share of the fish taken by her) And this<br />
deponent upon these Conditions and noe other did about the fower or<br />
five and twentieth of September 1653 with sayd men or the sayd<br />
ffearne had provided to goe to sea in the sayd vessell<br />
for three or fower days and followed their fishing<br />
and gott some smale quantitie of herrings in that tyme to the value<br />
of about fiftie pounds sterling which herrings the sayd ffearne<br />
tooke and disposed of towards paying himselfe for such charges<br />
hee had bin at for victualing and fitting out of the sayd shipp upon the<br />
sayd voyage and further saving his subsequent deposition to<br />
which hee refereth hee cannot depose./
