Carpenters Mate of the ''Redd Rose'' aged thirty fower yeares<br />
or thereabouts a wittnesse sworne and examined saith and<br />
deposeth as followeth videlicet./
To the first article of the sayd allegation hee saith that in the moneth<br />
of Aprill and May 1659 the arlate Edmund Lemmon and Company all<br />
Englishmen were commonly accompted and reputed and<br />
lawfull Owners and proprietors of the articulated Shipp the ''Redd Rose'' and<br />
her tackle Apparell and furniture this hee the better knoweth for that<br />
hee went Carpenters mate and Pylott of her from London during the<br />
whole voyage in question And further to this article he deposeth not./
To the 2 article hee saith that in the moneth of May 1659 the sayd ship<br />
the ''Redd Rose'' did remayne in a peaceable manner in the River of<br />
Eames arlate not farr from Embden arlate where the sayd Lemmon and<br />
his shipps Company were then taking in and ladeing aboard her a ladeing<br />
of salt to be thence transported to Stockholme in Sweden a place in the<br />
East Seas in league and amity with this Commonwealth of England which<br />
ladeing was taken aboard her for Accompt (as he hath Credibly heard<br />
and beleeveth) of English merchants subiects of this Commonwealth<br />
And further to this act hee not depose./
To the third article of the sayd allegation he saith that in the sayd Moneth<br />
of May 1659 and while the sayd ship ''Redd Rose'' did abide in a peaceable<br />
manner in the sayd River of Eames and not far from Embden aforesaid<br />
taking in of her ladeing the arlate Wygart Wygarts and John drewes<br />
subiects (as he hath credibly heard and beleeveth) of the States of the United<br />
Netherland provinces did whilst the arlate Edmon Lemmon and<br />
severall others of his shippes Company were on shoare about the occasions<br />
of his sayd ship the ''Red Rose'' to provide beere bread and other provisions<br />
and necessaries for the sayd ship and to send more salt and other ladeing<br />
aboard her, with divers souldiers and mariners come aboard the sayd<br />
shipp and in a hostile manner seize the sayd shipp and such of her<br />
company as were aboard her and her ladeing of salt then aboard her<br />
and brake open the Cupboards bages chests and truncks in the sayd<br />
shipp and tooke away all the bills of ladeing and other shipp papers<br />
and evidences and bills of exchange and tooke also bonds and bills for moneys due to some<br />
of the company of the said shipp and many letters which severall<br />
of the shipps Company had brought from England to be carried to the<br />
English ffleete in the Sounds this hee the better knoweth for that hee<br />
this deponent (being one of the shipps company which was on shoare<br />
with the sayd Lemmon when the sayd seizure was made) did after<br />
hee and the sayd Lemmon and the rest of the shipps company were<br />
suffered to come aboard the sayd ship soe that the sayd truncks Chests<br />
boxes and Cupboards were broken open and all the papers taken out of them<br />
and knoweth that there was a bond for payment of Thirty two pounds sterling to this<br />
deponent and an other for payment of five pounds and another for payment<br />
of sixe pounds to this deponent and twenty letters which this deponent<br />
brought from England to Carrie to the English ffleete in the Sounds taken outhe English ffleete in the Sounds taken out +
