this deponent that he had received advise … this deponent that he had received advise by Letters<br />
from the arlate Perera of the lading of oyles and other<br />
goods by the arlate Policarpe de Olavares at Porta port<br />
in Portugall for his the said Pereras Accompt, and<br />
that in the said Perera did by the same Letters alsoe<br />
advise him the said ffernandez de Carvaiall that the<br />
said goods were consigned to the said Morad in ffrance<br />
and that the said ffernandez to have gone a share in the<br />
said goods, And otherwise he cannot depose./
To the eight and ninth articles he deposeth and saith that he<br />
hath seene the bills of exchange with Morais the sayd<br />
Perera;s ffactor did draw upon ffernandez de Carvaiall<br />
his precontest for the goods in controversy, and that he<br />
saw the said bills a good while before the seizure of the<br />
arlate shipp And further he cannot depose.
To the tenth article he saith that at the time he saw the<br />
bills of exchange which the said Morais did draw upon the<br />
sayd ffernandez for the accompt of the sayd Perera for the<br />
goods arlate, the sayd bills were accepted, and therfore<br />
he doubteth not but they were payd And<br />
otherwise he cannot depose.
To the eleaventh article he deposeth and saith that the said<br />
Joseph Perera did by a Letter (bearing date the twelth (sic)<br />
of March last old stile) which said Letter he hath<br />
now in his hand) advise this deponent that there were<br />
laden or lading at Porta port in Portugall for his<br />
accompt Oyles and Sumacke, and by the said<br />
Letter he the said Perera advisd this deponent to make<br />
some assurance upon the said goods at London for his the<br />
sayd Pereras accompt, and that this deponent did<br />
accordingly endeavour the same, but the Assurance being<br />
high, he could not doe it, And further he cannot<br />
depose Saving that afterwards he received advise from<br />
the said Perera that he the said Perera had assured<br />
all or some of the said goods at Amsterdam.
To the twelth article he referreth himselfe to his<br />
former deposition And further he cannot answeare,.
To the thirteenth he deposeth that the said Joseph Perera<br />
hath advisd this deponent by Letter that the goods and shipp<br />
arlate were seized by a ffrigatt belonging to this<br />
Commonwealth And further he cannot depose.
To the fourteenth article he deposeth and saith that he well<br />
knoweth the arlate Antonio Rodrigues de Morais<br />
and that he was borne at Porta Port in Portugall and<br />
the deponent saith that the said Morais hath lived divers<br />
yeares at Roane, In some of which yeares this deponent<br />
hath lived there alsoe, and that therby he well knoweth<br />
that the said de Morais liveth there as a Merchant<br />
Stranger, And further he cannot depose/
