Transcription On the ninth day of September 1654. [CENTROn the ninth day of September 1654. [CENTRE HEADING] Jones and Company Mariners in the}<br /> shipp the ''Constant Ruth'' against}<br /> Holworthy, Williams and Company}<br /> ffrancklin Suckly Colquit} Upon the allegation given in and<br /> admitted on the behalfe of the sayd<br /> Jones and Company/ '''Rp.''' '''2''' '''Christopher Hamlin''' of Islington in the County<br /> of Middlesex Mariner where he hath lived above three<br /> yeares past, aged about 27 yeares, a wittnes<br /> produced, sworne and examined he deposeth and<br /> saith as followeth. To the third article of the sayd allegation given in and admitted<br /> on the behalfe of the sayd Jones and Company and to<br /> the schedule therin mentioned he deposeth and saith That he<br /> this deponent went aboard the shipp the ''Constant Ruth'' arlate<br /> in the moneth of March last was twelve=months, at the<br /> Barbathoses and sayled in her untill shee was taken, which was<br /> about five months after, and that by his being on board the sayd<br /> shipp he well knew the schedlate John Lingham, Edward<br /> White, John Jones, John Wood, Robert [?Weedings]<br /> and Luke holliday, and he sayth that when Captaine hay[?man]<br /> Master of the sayd shipp did enter him this deponent in his<br /> shipp=booke he shewed this deponent there was [?allowed]<br /> unto the sayd John Lingham, Edward White and John<br /> Jones Marriners of the sayd shipp the summe of 1 ''li'' 8 ''s'' per month<br /> to each of them, and he sayth that the sayd John Wood was<br /> Cooke of the sayd shipp, the sayd Robert Weedings was<br /> Bosen and the sayd Luke holliday was the Captaynes boy<br /> but what their wages were he knoweth not And further<br /> he cannot depose. To the fourth article he deposeth and saith that the shipp the<br /> ''Constant Ruth'' arlate sayled from the Coast of Guyney [?on]<br /> the sixteenth of December Last was 12=months (English<br /> stile, and arrived safe with the Negro's aboard her at the<br /> Barbathoes following: The premisses he knoweth because he this<br /> deponent was aboard a shipp called the ''Industry'' (whereof<br /> one James Cranidge was Master) which shipp the ''Industry'' [?XXX]<br /> in Company with the arlate shipp the ''Constant Ruth'' from<br /> the said Coast of Guyny and arrived safely at the Barbathoes<br /> together with the sayd shipp the ''Constant Ruth'', but he sayth he<br /> knoweth not the certaine number of Negro's aboard the said<br /> shipp the ''Constant Ruth'' And further he cannot depose. To the rest he is not examined by direction of the producent./ To the Interrogatoryes. [CENTRE HEADING] '''Suckley dt.''' To the first Interrogatory he answereth That he the Rendent and<br /> the interrate Thomas Jefferys were taken into the shipp interrate the<br /> ''Constant Ruth'' at the Barbadoes, and that he this Rendent was not<br /> presente at the hyring of any of the sauyd shipps mariners but onely [?the]<br /> interrate Thomas Jefferyes, and henry Dager, Edward C[?XXX GUTTER]<br /> William Wilson and ffrancis Brookes who were all taken in at the<br /> Barbadoes, and that he this Rendent did not see the delivery<br /> of any goods out of the said shipp but he saith that he was [?present] and on board at the taking in of goods which were the product of [?XXX]<br /> she brought and landed at the said Barbatho's and he answereth that the<br /> said shipp and all her lading was afterwards taken by the [?XXXX And]<br /> further he cannot answeare.
