deponent, and thereby and by severall credible informations from persons of good
qualitie and creditt this deponent is convinced in Conscience, That the said shipp
the ''golden Sunn'' did not in all that yeare 1652:- goe to Amsterdam or to any other
part or place under the Commannd of the Staes of the United Netherlands
And further cannot depose:/
To the 14th hee saith, That about 8. daies since hee this deponent with his
precontest Christian Cloppenburgh and one Mr Castile a Merchant
liveing here in London being togeather in the Assurance office London,
did there find and onserve, That about three moneths before the said shipps
''Sampson'' ''Salvadore'' and ''Saint George'' departed from Cadiz upon the Voiage
in question, there had been assurances made and entred in the said Office
for the assurance of some part of the ladeing of the said shipps ''Salvador'' and
''Saint George'' from Cadiz to Ostend. And further hee cannot depose./
To the Interrogatories:- [CENTRE HEADING]
To the first hee saithm hee this rendent is a Native of hamborough, where
hee hath had his constant place of residence from his infancie, And otherwise
negatively:-
To the 2: hee saith hee is a Mariner by profession, and hath not beene at
Lubeck within the time interrate, but hath bin twice at Amsterdam in that
time, whereof the first was as hee now remembreth in the yeare 1648, and
then remained there about 4. or five moneths, and was last there in the
yeare 1650. and 1651. his said shipp remaining then there for about 11. moneths, but this
rendent for the most part of that time at hamburgh, And saith hee never
saw the shipp the ''Sampson'' interrate there./
To the 3. hee saith hee knoweth nothing thereof.
To the 4. hee saith hee doeth not know or hath ever heard anything thereof.
To the 5. hee saith, hee never saw the shipp ''Sampson'' interrate at Lubeck:/
To the 6th hee saith hee hath knowne the interrate Otto George for about
13. or 14. yeares before his death, and saith hee was accounted an Easterling
borne between hamburgh and Lunenburgh, and that hee dyed a
married man, having had his wife at Lubeck ever since the yeare 1647. interrate
To the 7th hee saith, it is probable and hee this rendent beleeveth that some
Broakers of Amsterdam may be and are worth a Thousand pound, and that
the Notion of a Broaker or Innekeeper is no impediment for being part Owner
in a shipp, if hee have wherewith to procure it./
To the 8th hee saith, That hee cannot further or otherwise depose then hee
hath formerly deposed./
To the 9th hee knoweth not to answer any thing in satisfaction to this
interrogatorie of his owne experience, but beleeveth a Trumpeter of a shipp may
change his condition, and yet abusively retaine the stile of Trumpeter amongst
his Camerades./:-
