Transcription

1. France there to take in her X full ladeing and thence to saile
2. for London, and that hee this deponent was the said voyage one
3. of her company, namely Pilot of her, and thereby knoweth the TO DO: JXXXX
4. To the second Interrogatorie hee saith and deposeth that the said
5. shipp in the course aforesaid from Nantes for Mormontier?, came
6. to an anchor in the Roade of Mormontier? about a Cannon shott
7. from the shore, in a place where shipps doe frequently use to
8. anchor, before they goe nearer the shore, which hee knoweth being
9. a Pilot and using those coaste and voyages.
10. To the third Interrogatorie and fourth Interrogatories hee saith and deposeth
11. that it soe happened that at the time of the said shipps soe coming
12. to an anchor, there was a Biskayer or some other Spanish X ˹man˺
13. of warr, anchored in the said roade, whereupon the his TO DO: nante XXXXX
14. Eleazar le Marchant the yonger who ˹was master of and˺ went X merchant in the
15. said shipp Fortune, went ashore to speake with the Merchant
16. X that was to lade there the rest of her lading, and that
17. within the space of an houre after such his going ashore, there X came

21. shipp Fortune had soe anchored about foure or five houres,
22. the said pilot then soe came aboard, removed her to carry her
23. nearer to shore and brought her by error or negligence upon a banck
24. of mud, whence shee was speedily gott off againe, and was then
25. by the said pilot brought and anchored in a place which hee TO DO: XXXX
26. and affirmed to be a safe place for the said shipp to ride in, but
27. in truth was a dangerous place, being upon a ledge of rocks,
28. which hee knoweth being present and knowing the premisses.
29. To the fifth Interrogatorie hee saith and deposeth that the weather
30. speedily after the said shipps soe being brought last to an anchor
31. grew tempestuous, and the tempest in the night time increased
32. more and more, by meanes whereof the said shipp (the ladeing
33. be falling away and tide abating) bilged upon the said rocks
34. and sanck and was XXXX away became full of water in the
35. hould through leak{i} nes, but then shee could not be got out
36. againe to sea without first mending and repairing of her. And
37. otherwise hee cannot depose being hee XXXX.the premisses.
38. To the sixth Interrogatorie hee saith and deposeth that the said shipp
39. by reason of the said bilging and sinking remained under water
40. by the shore of XXXXX XXXX or thereabout, before shee was
41. or could be gotten up againe, and saith then there were bintinous
42. and XXXXXXXX three or foure boates and 20 or 25 men or thereabout
43. used and imployed all or the most part of the shore above pumping
44. out the water and weighing up the said shipp, and that the TO DO:  ?
