Transcription

month of November last past there were (of this deponents
certaine knowledge being a Slave or Captive then and there
bills putt up publishing the exposure of the said shipp
to publique sale, according to the use and custome of the
Country, and that according at an Outcry the said shipp
was exposed to sale, and soe bought by John Ashwyn the
producent, who did pay for the same (as he the deponent
hath heard from the Moores a certaine shipp called the
Returne of London and fifty Duckatts in silver, And
he saith that he well knew the said shipp the Returne
and that in his iudgement it was very well worth either
here or there the summe of three hundred pounds lawfull
English money And further he cannot depose.

To the third, fourth fifth and sixth articles he deposeth and
saith that he this deponent being by the meanes and procurement
of the producent and others redeemed from his Captivity was
shipt aboard the arlate shipp and was one of the said
shipps Company and safely arrived in her at this Port
of London, And he saith thet he knoweth that the producent
could not have had the possession of the said shipp, had
he not bought her, and that he was in quiett and [?unquestionable GUTTER]
possession of her from New-Sally unto this port of London
untill such time as Alderman ffrederick caused her to be
arrested, And he further saith that the said John Ashwyn
arlate the producent did of this deponents knowledge buy with
his owne money at Sally the provisions for and alsoe the
tackle and apparrell and cables and Anchors for the sayd
shipp, And further he cannot depose.

To the eighth article he saith that all the sayd shipps company
who came home in her from Sally had bin Captives,
and were (according to the orders of the Lord Protector given [?to GUTTER]
the said John Ashwin and Mtr Robert Downes) and by
their meanes and procurement redemmed and releast from
their Captivity And further he cannot depose.
