Transcription

Sampson shee hath of this deponents observation been constantly and continually
reputed and taken amongst Merchants and Mariners for a shipp belonging
to the said Port of Lubeck, and hath never amongst persons of Creditt
so farr as this deponent hath heard, been observed reputed or taken to bee
a shipp belonging to Amsterdam or to any other port or place person or persons
in obsedience to the States of the United Netherlands. And further to this
article hee saith hee cannot depose./

To the 5th article hee saith, Thay the arlate Otto George in the moneths of
November or december in the yeare 1653. last past being sick and diseased did
of this deponents certaine knowledge imbarque himselfe in the shipp the Neptune of
hamborough, Martin holst Master for hamborough with an intention to goe
to Lubeck, wher as this deponent hath since understood, hee not long after did
arrive, and after such his arrivall dyed there, and was there buried in the quality
of a free Burgher and Citizen of Lubeck, and so much hee saith is publique
and notorious amongst Merchants and Mariners of those parts. And further
hee cannot depose/:-

that hee this deponent first came to know the said Peter Eleson about the
moneth of June in the yeare 1653. last past, amd saith, the said Peter Eleson
at that time was a Broker to and for Easterling schippers, and so commonly
reputed and taken, And saith That the said shipp the Sampson, so farr as this
deponent hath heard and verily beleeveth, was not at Amsterdam or any other
place in holland since the time of her seizure and confiscation by the ffrench att
Tholon, which happened in the yeare 1651. or thereabouts, and the redemption
thereof at or about the same time by her former Owners of Lubeck and Spaine
as this deponent then being in Spaine was credibly informed; And saith this
deponent hath never heard neither doeth hee in Conscience beleeve that the arlate
Peter Eleson either ever was part Owner or in a Capacity to be part Owner of
a shipp of so great consequence as the said Sampson was and is nor that the
said Otto George did ever make any accompt ro the said Eleson in any such
notion or quality. And further hee cannot depose./

Voyage from Lubeck to Spaine in the yeare 1647. last past and not before
the said Otto George being first made Skipper of her about december 1646. or in the
beginning of the ensueing yeare 1647. in which yeare this deponent saw her in
Spaine under the Conduct of the said Otto George; And otherwise, saving his
foregoeing deposition to which hee referreth, hee cannot, as hee saith depose./
