Transcription
of the dutch East India Company did then and there in the
presence and hearing of him this deponent confidently affirme to
the rest of the Gentlemen in Company togeather in the sayd
Skute, that the plate and silver which was on board those shipps
then lately seized by the English (meaning and speakeing of the
the (sic) sayd three shipps) did belonge to severall ducthmen of
Amsterdam and harlem or to that effect And further alsoe sayd
that allthough it might bee pretended that the sayd silver did belonge
to hamburgh yet at last (hee sauyd) it will fall upon our owne
heads, meaning and speaking of the dutch that were subiects of the
Styates aforesayd And further then likewise added that the English
were subtile enough to find out the ground of the busines or to
the selfe same effect and purpose, for which reasons this deponent for
this part did and doth verily beleeve that the plate and silver in the sayd
three shipps did and doth really belong to the subiects of the sayd States
of the United Netherland Provinces And further or otherwise hee saith
hee cannot depose./
To the 15th and 16th articles of the sayd allegation hee saith hee
cannot depose./
To the Crosse Interrogatories [CENTRE HEADING]
Top the first Interrogatorie hee saith hee was not of the Company of
the sayd shipp the Salvadore./
To the second hee saith hee was not present nor sawe the ladeing
of the sayd shipp./
To the third hee saith hee cannot depose./
To the 4th hee saith hee knoweth none of the Owners of the
sayd shipp the Salvadore./
To the 5th hee saith hee is not concerned therein./
To the 6th hee saith his naturall language is English and
that hee can speake dutch as well as English and learnt the
same upwards of Twenty yeares agoe at Rotterdam./
To the 7th hee saith hee can both read and write both dutch and English./
To the 8th hee saith hee doth not knowe the Purser of the
