To the first article of the sayd Libell he deposeth and
saith that he this deponet was very well acquainted with
the arlate John Mare in the time arlate, and he saith
that within the said time and more especially within the
moneths of May and June 1653 he the said Mare
was Master or Commander of the arlate shipp the
hope of London, and had the care and government of her
The premisses he deposeth because that the said Mare as Master of the said [?shipp] did
make an offer unto him this deponent to goe along with
him in the said shipp as one of the said shipps
Company in the voyage for which she was then bound
And further he cannot depose
To the second article of the said Libell and to the schedule therein
mentioned he deposeth and saith that he this deponent was
in the yeares 1652 and 1653 fforeman of the shopp of
the producent, and that in the moneth of ffebruary 1652
[?inXXX] et cetera (to his best remembrance) the said John Mare
came first to the producents shopp and bespoke certaine
iron works for the use and for the repayring of the
arlate shipp the hope of London she then lying in the
River of Thames, and he saith that the said schedule being
now read over unto him, he well knoweth that all the
particulars mentioned in the said bill or schedule were at the bespeaking
of the arlate John Mare and at his desire made, provided
and delivered for the said shipps use and for her
necessary reparation unto the sayd Mare or sucn as
came in his name and by his order for the same, and he
further saith that although he doth not know whither there
was any certaine bargaine or contract made betweene the
said Mare and the producent for the prices of the particulars mentioned
in the said schedule, yet he saith he well knoweth that
the particulars are really, honestly and concionably worth
the severall values and rates at which they are valued
and rated in the said schedule, And further he cannot
depose.
To the third article he deposeth and saith that the producent
hath assisted the shipp arlate, which he beleiveth he would
not hath done, could he hath gott his money by [?faire]
meanes And further referring himselfe to the Registry
of this Court he cannot depose.
To the fourth article he deposeth that the producent did
presently after the delivery of the goods schedulate for the [?use]
of the shipp arlate, tell this deponent that his bill came
unto 21 li odd moneys, And he saith that the said
producent hath bin much dammaged in not receiving the
