Michell Batten (b. ca. 1618; d. ?). Mariner.

Gunner of the ship the ffreindshipp (Master: Barnaby Holding).

Resident in 1655 in Wapping.

Evidence from High Court of Admiralty

Thirty-eight year old Michell Batten deposed on February 12th 1655 in the High Court of Admiralty. He was examined on an allegation on behalf of Wright and Company in the case "Wright and Company owners of the ffriendship (Barnaby Holding master) against Lenthall and others".[1]

Michell Batten stated that the ship the ffreindship was at Mallaga, outside the command of the town's fort, in October 1654. The master, Barnaby Holding, sent his boat ashore at the request of Mr Whitby, the sopra cargo fro the freighters on board ship. They expected a raft of wine to be sent to the ship. Micehll Batten went in the ship's boat to attend Mr Whitby.[2]
