1. To the second hee cannot answer for hee came not into the shipp before
2. her coming to New England as aforesaid.
3. To the XX third ˹and 4˺ hee cannot answer, seeing negatively for his part
4. To the 5th hee saith hee well know her the said Edwards and whitfeild
5. from New England the said voyage for 6 only monethes or thereabouts
6. during which theXX Edwards was Gunner and Whitfield merchant of the
7. said shipp; and saith hee 50X is usuall wages for Carpenter such
8. a voyage, and the like for a Gunner. And otherwise hee cannot answer, saving
9. as aforesaid.
10. To the 6 hee saith hee cometh requested by mr Brylehett and when
11. to testifie the tenth in their XXXX, and otherwise negatively for his part
12. To the 7th negatively for his part and otherwise hee cannot answer
13. To the 8th hee saith hee expecteth his full wages due to him for the
14. said voyage, and by the said Captaine was principled his full wages
15. but hath had not twentie with other thereabour, and otherwise saving
16. as aforesaid hee cannot depose.

31. aed fifty nyne yeares or thereabouts a witnesse sworne
32. and examined saith and deposeth as followeth vigt.
33. To the first article the sayd allogation hee saith hee this deponent went
34. steward of the shipp the Negro the voyage in question and thereby very well
35. observed that the arlate Samuell Rogers Edwards and Roger Whitfeild the voyage
36. in question did XXXXX there were much given to drinking and tippling
37. and often laye on shoare drinking and tippling at Alehouses and this
38. deponent hath often seene them come from on shore drunk or distempered
39. and overtaken with drink in such a measure that they were not able nor
40. fitt to performe their duty on board the said shipp in which drunken
41. humours XXX saith they did very frequently give evell language to the
42. Captaine of the sayd shipp and otheres of her company and did for the most part
43. whether drunke or sober (of this deponents knowledge) behave them sevles very
44. stubbornly and diabolically towards the sayd Captaine and refuse to
45. obey the sayd Captaines Commands in their place and imployments, and this
46. deponent hath observed that when the Captaine hath Commanded the sayd
47. Edwards and Whitfeild to doe worke according to their places about the says shipp
48. they (especially the sayd Whitfeild) have soe soone as ever the Captaine was
49. gone upon his necessary occasions given over their work and XXXX fallen to drinking
