Transcription

1. To the 7th Interrogatories hee saith that hee beleeveth that there passed
2. discourse betwixt the interrate mr Chillingworth and this examinate to the
3. effect interrate, and that this deponent as hee beleeveth did or might
4. answer him as is interrogated, and morefull the to the effect, for hee saith
5. it being his endeavour that everyone there should understand and beleeve
6. the said goods to be belonging to Spaniards hee this examinate said as much
7. as hee could to induce and with whom hee discoursed there about (which
8. was with many ˹soe˺ to beleeve XfreX, but all was in colour only and
9. to preserve them to mr ffernandez.
10. To the 8th hee saith that the said exported cargo lading was at the
11. canaries sold for Sixteene hundred pounds (sterling) or thereaboute,
12. to and were sold to so many persons that hee remembreth not ˹all˺ their
13. names, but some hee doth, namely Don simon de Herrera, don Christoval
14. de Alvarado, and don Bernardo de Armandaris, of whome alsoe hee
15. bought part of the said goods soe laden as aforesaid for the said mr
16. ffernandez account at Teneriff, and the rest of others, but with money
17. and some upon truck for some of the exported goods. And saith the
18. foresaid wines and hides soe laded at Teneriff by this deponent
19. for the said ffernandez as aforesaid cost Sixtie five they said Realls
20. (accounting eight Reals, to a peece of eight) XX or thereaboute
21. To the 9th article hee saith that hee referreth himself to his foregoeing
22. deposition where he hath satisfied the same./
23. To the 10th hee saith hee beleeveeth that the said John Balhache was not
24. privie present nor as hee beleeveth to privie to the writing or
25. subscription of the said bills, but saith the said John was this deponents
26. servant as aforesaid, referring himselfe to his foregoing deposition, and
27. went in noe other qualitie but as this deponents servant or apprentice.
28. To the eleventh hee saith that at the request of the said mr Painter, this
29. deponent caused the said first bill or second schedule of those remaining
30. in Court to be written, to the end ˹to˺ colour the goods therein mentioned at
31. by making them seeme to be belonging to Spaniards, and this deponent
32. beleeveth they are belonging to the said mr Painter, but what the said
33. Mr Page hath owned or refused to owne ˹or frivie˺ hee knoweth not, and
34. otherwise saving his foregoing deposition, hee cannot answer.
35. To the last hee saith that the interrate Robert Hunter bought of this
36. deponent two pipes of wine (which were laden aboard and as hee
37. beleeveth brought home in the said shipp) ˹and paid for then at Teneriff,˺ and that the said hunter was
38. to let mr Page have the same them, Mr Page paying him
39. for them XX sixtie pounds sterling for the wine for which hee XX
40. and then the said mr Page ˹sold˺ XXXXXX for that sum of money, he saith the mr hunter
41. hee gave an obligation, and that the said hunter had alsoe some hides
42. and some tobaccoes aboard the shipp for his owne account, but
43. howe many hides, or howe much tobaccoe hee knoweth not.
