1. plundered and stripped him of his Cloathes and other things to the
2. value of twenty pounds and left him almost naked, but whether
3. the shipp the sayd denew was in belonged to subiects of the united
4. Provinces hee knoweth not for that the sayd denew did ˹not˺ tell this
5. deponent soe much neither did this deponent ask him that question./
6. To the 6th article hee saith hee cannot of his certayne Knowledge depose
7. any thing thereto but hath XX credibly heard that the shipp the hare in
8. the ffeild was a dutch shipp belonging to the subiects of the states of
9. the united provinces and was soe adiudged to bee and restored by order of
10. this Court, and her ladeing restored to divers of her owners the
11. owners thereof both dutch and English who Claymed them And hath heard
12. the sayd shipp sayling afterwards from London to Cadiz with divers
13. of the goods soe restored in her was at Cadiz was within these
14. XXXX monthes last past seiged upon by the officers and subjects of the Kinge of Spaine and her goods taken out of
15. her by them and kept and detayned from the Owners, And this heard one
16. Herman Goris an English merchant saye hee has goods in her at
17. such her seized at Cadiz which were returned detayned from him
18. And further to this article hee cannot depose./
19. To the 7th article hee saith that hee this deponent having used
20. the loade of merchandizing for diverse yeares knoweth that in the tyme arlate it hath bin and is
21. ususal among merchants to make colourable bills of ladding
22. into for the better preservation of goods laden by them in any
23. country in hostility with the king of spaine, that in case they should
24. in their passage bee visited by any men of warr belonging to the
25. sayd King of Spaine or his subjects, they may thereby appeare as if
26. they were laden, and for accompte of such as are in Amity with
27. the sayd King, though in reality they doe belong to those that
28. are in hostility with him the sayd King And this hee saith is a
29. thing well knowne and commonly practised among merchants
30. in tymes of warr And further cannot depose
31. To the last hee saith his foregoing deposition is true/
32. To the Interrogatories./
33. To the first Interrogatorie hee saith hee cometh to testifie in this
34. cause being required by Master James Burkin and Joas Everson mer-
35. chants of London and correspondents of the sayd Symon and Lewie
36. Rodrigues de Sonza And saith hee hath knowne the sayd Symon and Lewis
37. by the correspondence of the sayd Byrkin and Everson (this deponent being the sayd Burkins' servant) for about these two yeares last past and saith they
38. live at Amsterdam and soe have done during the tyme his sayd master the sayd Everson hee had had
39. Correspondence with them, which is as aforesayd about two yeares,
40. and how long before that they lived there, or where they lived during the
41. tyme interrogate hee knoweth not, and whose subjects they are hee knoweth
42. not, and saith his this deponents master the forenamed Master James Burkin is
