1. sayd shipp Recovery the sayd Turley ˹receaved a mischance, which mischance˺ (as hee afterwards confessed to this
2. deponent and as this deponent heard by severall of the sayd shipps Company)
3. he receaved by a fall on shipp board, (a scuttle of the shipp being open,) and
4. this deponent sawe him the same evening about tenn a clock at night brought
5. into the sayd Yongs house very sore hurt not able to goe ˹of him selfe˺ but as hee was
6. held up betweene two men and was scarce able to speake by reason of the
7. paine hee was in, and this deponent heard the Chirurgion who had him
8. in Care saye, that by the sayd fall there was some of his Ribbs broken
9. And this deponent sawe him layed into bedd and did visite him severall
10. tymes in the tyme hee this deponent stayed at Berghen after the sayd
11. mischance happened (which was about fifteene or sixteene days) And
12. saith hee alsoe well knoweth that in the tyme the sayd Turley was ill
13. of the sayd disaster the sayd Cutberd did cause the sayd shipps outward
14. ladeing brought from England to be X brought on shoare, and
15. hyred a warehouse or shopp to lay them and to make sale of them in,
16. and did dayly sell off the outward Cargoe and X X buy a great
17. part of the homeward Cargoe while the sayd Turley continued ill
18. of the hurt receaved as aforesayd, and the sayd Cutberd for the
19. better secureing the outward Cargo till it could be sould, did frequently
20. lye on shoare in the sayd Warehouse or shopp to watch the sayd, goods,
21. and this deponent the better knoweth the same for that hee and other Merchants
22. who laye at the sayd Yonges house having occasion to bee late ˹sometymes˺ very late
23. aboard and sometymes very early up did knocke at X X X the sayd
24. shopp as they went by early and late, to see whether all were safe and
25. whether anybody was within, and were answered upon X their
26. soe knocking by the sayd Cutberd, and knoweth of his the sayd
27. Cutberd selling the sayd Outward Cargoe or the greatest part thereof
28. for that hee was this deponent was often at the shopp a foresayd and
29. saweX him make sale of much of the sayd goods, and did knoweth
30. hee kept ˹a dayly˺ X Accompt of the sayle of them, for that hee helped him severall
31. X tymes as hee this deponent came by the shopp (or was at leasure)
32. to write part of his Accompt, And as touching his the sayd Cutberds
33. buying of a ˹great˺ part of the homeward Cargoe hee saith hee heard sawe
34. the sayd Cutberd (while the sayd Turley continued soe ill of his
35. hurte that hee was not able to stirre abroard) buy seaven or eight
36. X lasts of tarre, and some (part of her homeward Cargoes)
37. and did heare X other Merchants of Berghen ˹(besides those of whome hee saw him buy that quantitie)˺ saye that hee the
38. sayd Cutberd had bought alsoe of them tarr and deales And saith
39. that during most part of the tyme that this deponent stayed at
40. Berghen after the sayd disaster or mischance befell the sayd
41. Turley, (hee this deponent dayly visiting him being lodged in the
42. house where hee laye ill) did observe, that hee the sayd Turley was soe
43. ill that hee was not in a capacity to mannage any busines of buying
44. or selling, but kept within doores till some fore days before this deponents
45. departure from Berghen, and was then only soe farr recovered as that
46. with much difficulty and supporte of a staffe hee was able to walk
47. to the shipp Recoverie, and to the shopp, they being both within a stones
48. throwing or somewhat better from his lodgeing, And saith hee
49. experimentally knoweth being him selve a merchant tradeing at Bergen
50. and other XXXX places XXXX XXX in Norway that the sayd Cutberd
51. could not there drive bargaines and buy and sell (as hee did) without being
