15. thirty sixe ˹yeares˺ or thereabouts a wittnes sworne and examined
16. saith and deposeth as followeth videlicet./

18. To the first Interrogatorie hee saith hee well knoweth the Interrogate shipp the Hopewell
19. goeing quartermaster of her in her last voyage to the streights which is the voyage
20. in question and such the Interrogatorie John Harris was and weat master of her that voyage
21. And further to this Interrogatorie hee cannot depose/
22. To the 2 Interrogatorie hee saith hee knoweth that the sayd shipp the voyage in question
23. tooke in the greatest part of her homewards Cargo at Scanderoome and sayled
24. thence to Cyprus where shee took in the rest of her sayd Cargo, and saith
25. shee was to deliver the same part at Ligorne Interrogate and the rest at London
26. and saith the sayd goods being laden hee this deponent did at Ciprus soe
27. a hundred twenty and odd dollars told out on shipp board and carried on shoare to
28. pay the port charges of the sayd goods there and hee beleeveth all customes and
29. duties due at both the sayd parts to the Grand signior for the goods there laden
30. were payed before the sayd shipps departed from the sayd ports with the sayd
31. goods, for that it is the usuall custome both there and in all other places that shipps
32. are not permitted to depart from any port till they have made it appeare
33. that they have cleered and paid all customes and duties to be paid for their
34. ladeing And further to this article Interrogatorie hee cannot depose./
35. To the 3 4th 5th 6th 7th Interrogatorie hee saith the sayd ˹shipp˺ with her sayd homwewards
36. Cargo all of it on board her departed from Cyprus bound for Ligorne,
37. and in her passage thither mett with very tempestious and fowle weather which
38. caused her to springe severall leakes and brake the iron worke of her
39. Rudder and washed ˹her Rudder˺ cleere off by which meanes the sayd shipp was soo disabled
40. that hee having receaved her Ruther floating in the sea and gotten it on shipp
41. board was forced for perservation of the sayd shipp and goods to returne
42. back for Cyprus which was her neerest port, and there unlade a great
43. part of her sayd Cargoe that soo shee might gett her leakes stopped and
44. repayred and her rudder now hunge, which being done hee saith John Harris
45. hee XX Harris her Master and his company did lade relade part of her sayd
46. Cargo on board her but were interupted and hindered from ladeing the
47. rest by certaine officers of the Grand Signior who pretended that by reason
48. her goods were unladen againe there that therefore the Grand Signior was
49. to have new custome for them but after awhile hee saith the sayd officers
50. by the mediation of the Interrogate Roger ffowke (who is accompted
51. the English Consull there) were contented to permitt and did pervailt the
52. sayd master and Company to relade the rest of his sayd Cargoe on
53. board the sayd shipp which being done the sayd ffowke did in presence
54. of this deponent and his contests Thomas Metford Robert Pembridge
55. and others of the sayd shipps Company demand of the sayd John Harris
56. the Master 18 hundred dollars or peeces of eight for his Consullage and
