Transcription

1. To the first Article of the said Allegation, hee saith, hee this deponent well
2. knoweth the shipp or Vessell the Levant friggat allate, And that the
3. arlate John Haselgrave the Captaine and Commander of the said frigatt
4. and one Mr Lewis a Merchant of this City of London togeather with
5. other Marchants of the same Citie, were in the yeare 1654. arlate, and still
6. XXXXthe true and Lawfull Owners of the said shipp, and of her tackle apparrll
7. and furniture, and for such the said hasilygrave and Company were XXXX
8. XXX generally knowne and reputed. This deponent having as a Mariner sailed and
9. served in and aboard the said shipp two sewall voiages, whereof the voiage
10. allate was one; and thereby coming he be well informed of the said Owners And
11. further cannot depose:-

12. To the second Article hee saith, That in or about the moneth of June .1654:
13. arlate the said shipp proceeded upon a voyage from this Port of London
14. to Genoa with Cargazoon of goods which was there safe delivered; and
15. that after such her discharge there, shee sett sayle for the Island of Leopora
16. where shee tooke in 3000. barrills of raisins. which shee brought in safety to
17. and discharged ˹them˺ at this Port of London to the allate Chownes and Companie.
18. This deponent as aforesaid belonging to and serving aboard the said shipp the whole
19. Voyage allate. And further cannot depose./

20. To the third Article, (to which the schedule or Charterpartie allate is pretended to be but
21. is not annexed at the time of his examination, hee saith hee knoweth nothing
22. thereof, having never seene any such Charterpartie:-/:-

23. To the 4th hee saith, That the said shipp proceeded, as predeposed, upon her
24. Voiage to Genoa, where having discharged her outwards lading, shee sayled
25. as aforesaid to the Island of Lepora, and there received aboard ˹her˺ the said
26. 3000. barrills of raisins which the said shipp brought and discharged in
27. safety at this Port of London to and for the accompt of the said Chownes
28. and Companie, which hee knoweth for the reason predeposed.

29. To the 5th hee saith the said 3000. barrills of raisins were at Lepora aforesaid
30. Laden and putt aboard the said shipp by the arlate Abraham Hopwood
31. ffactor or agent of and for the said Chownes and Companie, this deponent
32. not knoweing any thing more of the contents of this arle:-/

33. To the 6th hee saith That the said shipp the Levant friggat was XXXXX XXX
34. burthen of about one hundred and fiftie Tunnes, and would with ease
35. and convenience have brought five hundred barrills of Lepora fruit more
36. and besides the 2000. barrills aforesaid for that hee was the Voiage aforesaid
37. Masters mate of and in the said shipp and in that quality employed in the
38. stowage of the said 3000. barrills and thereby observing that there was
39. roome and convenience enough to have received aboard 500 barrills of
40. fruite over and above the barrills Laden aboard as predeposed:- /And further
41. hee saith hee cannot depose.-/

42. To the 7th hee saith, hee knoweth nothing thereof:-/

43. To the 8th hee saith, hee knoweth nothing thereof, but referreth himselfe to
44. the Acts of this Court:-

45. To the Last hee saith his foregoeing deposition is true:/
