IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN The thirtyeth day of September Anno Dmi One thousand six hundred eighty three and in the five and thirtyeth yeare of the reigne of our Sovereign Lord Charles the second by the grace of God of England Scotland ffrance and Ireland King defender of the ffaith xre I S:r William Rawstorne Kn:t and one of the Aldermen of the City of London being at present sick in body but in perfect mind and understanding to prevent all differences confusion and distraction that may in any wise arise in or amongst my ffamily or Relations after my decease Doe now revoke annull and make void all former Wills and Testaments by me made at any time before the date of these Presents and doe make and ordaine this to be my only last Will and Testament whrein first and principally I yeild and surrender my soule into the hands of Allmighty God my Creator trusting and stedfastly beleiving by and through the merrits death and passion of my only Saviour and redeemer Jesus Christ to have full and free remission of all my Sinns and enjoy life eternall My body I comitt to the Earth from whence it came to be modestly buryed in the Parish Church of S:t Lawrence Jury London as neare my late wife Elizabeth Rawstorne deceased as reasonably may be at the discretion of my Executrix and Trustee hereinafter named with as little Pompe and charge as may be

And as concerneing such worldly Estate as it hath pleased God of his mercy to bestow on me I will give and dispose the same in manner following that is to say

FFIRST I give and bequeath unto my most deare and entirely beloved Wife Dame Alice Rawstorne all her wearing apparell and her gold chaine and all her Rings XXXlaies and Jewells and my Coaches and Coach horses and all the XXXXhouseholdstuffe and Implements of Householdstuffe which I had with her that were formerly her late husbands M:r Hugh Smithson deceased And I give and bequeath unto her all my Coales firewood and corne that I shall have at the time of my decease and all the hay within my two Barnes And I also give and bequeath unto her the use of all my Plate Linnen Householdstuffe and Implements of householdstuffe for and during her naturall life shee ordering the same to be delivered to such person or persons to whom they shall or may appurtaine or belong at the time of her decease in as good case and plight as the same shall be in at the time of my decease reasonable use andwearing in the meane time only excepted

Beloved Wife All that my Capitall Messuage or Tenement where in I now live scituate and being in Plaistow in the parish of Westham in the County of Essex together with all yards Orchards and Gardens therewith now used To hold to her and her Assignes from and after my decease for and during the terme of her naturall life over and besides what was settled upon my said Wife and directed for her to enjoyduring her life in XXXX or before our intermarryage by Indenture or deeds for those purposes which I desire shee may have and enjoy accordingly

ITEM Igive deviseand bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Davenporte whom I have already preferred in marryage the summe of ffifty pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid her within two yeare safter my decease

ITEM I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Davenport my Granddaughter the summe ffifty pounds of like money the same to be paid unto her at her age of one and twenty yeares or dayof marryage which shall first happen

ITEM I give devise and bequeath unto my said dearly beloved Wife Dame Anne Rawstorne whom I doe hereby nominate, make and ordaine and declare to be my Trustee and Executrix of this last Will and Testament All that my Mannor or Lordshipof Basledon als Bassledon als Basltilden als Bassledon als Bassenden with the rights Members and appurtenances thereof in the County of Berkes and all LandsMeadowes ffeedings Pastures Woods Wood Lands used or enjoyed And all other my Messuages ffarmes Lands Tenements Woods Underwoods Wood grounds andHereditaments what soeverscituate lying and being in Basleden als Bastleden aforesaid or the MessuagesTenements Structures Ediffices and Buildings with them and every of their appurtenances scituate in ffeild Lane in or neare Holborne London And all other my Messuages Tenements Houses and Hereditaments in ffeild Lane and Holborne or else where in the Countyof Midds And all those my MessuagesTenements Structures andbuildings with their and every of their appurtenances scituate lyinge and being in or neare S:t Lawrence Lane & Kingstreet and either of them in the Parish of S:t lawrence Jury, London And all those Tofts ??Soyles Grounds Coleyards Salt yards MessuagesTenements Houses and Buildings thereupon builtor to be erected and built with their and every of their Rights Casements and appurtenances scituate lying and being in the now or late Parishes of S:t Mary Somersett and in every or any of them in or neare the City of London whatsoeverscituate and being in the said, now or late Parishes of S:t Lawrence Jury S.t Stephen Coleman Street S:t Martins Pomeroy S:t ffaiths S:t Augustine and S:t Mary Somersett and in every or any of them or else singular my Messuages Tenements Lands Meadows Pastures Marshgrounds and Hereditaments with their and everyof their appurtenances scituate lyingand being in the Townes ffeilds Parishes Precincts and territoryes of Eastham Westham Plaistow and Barking every or any of them or else where in the said County of Essex And alsoe all the rest and residueof my personall Estate Goods and Chattells Rights and Credits whatsoever not herein before given and bequeathed To have and to hold the said mannor Messuages lands Tenements Mweadowes Pastures WoodsWoodlandsHereditaments personallestate and Premisses with their

And every of their rights members and apputenances unto my said deare Wife Dame Alice Rawstorne and her heires Executors Administrators and Assignes for ever upon and under the speciall trusts and confidences in her here by me reposed and to and for the ends intents and purposes hereafter menconed and declared (that is to say that my) said dearly beloved Wife Dame Alice Rawstorne and her Assynes and the Child or Children shee shall be ensient withall at the time of my death his heror their Heires or Assignes shall and may have hold and enjoy all her his their or either of their Estate right or interest of into or out of the said Messuages Lands Tenements Hereditaments and Premisses That shee hee or they hath or haveor can shall or may lawfully claime by forceor vertue of this my Will or of the said Indentures or Deeds made upon or beforeour said intermarrying and or either of them or by forceor vertue of any use limitation direction clause Article or Agreement in them either or any of them containedin any manner of wise

said William Rawstorne his heires Executors and Assignes forever And I doe hereby accordingly direct order authorize and appoint my said dearlybeloved Wife Dame Alice Rawstorne to convey assigne transfer pay and set over into my said sonne William Rawstorne his heires Executorsand Assignes all the said residue and remainder of my said Mannor Messuages Lands Tenements Hereditaments personall estate and premissesand the Revenues and profits thereof thereout first deducting such costs charges and expences as my said beloved Wife her heires Executors or Administrators shall have sustained incurred or beene put to by reason of the trusts herein before in her reposed or the management there of

ITEM I doe hereby authorize and impowermy said dearly beloved wife her heires Executors and Administrators by and out of mysaid Estate to raise and pay such summe or summes of money as my said Wife her heires Executorsor Administrators shall soe pay forand towards the placeing every either or any of my said sonns out as aforesaid shall be allowed and by her her heires Executors or Administrators deducted out of the Legacy or Legacies porccon or porcconsof such my said three sonnes herein before respectively given and bequeathed for whom shee of they shall soe advance and pay the same

ITEM I doe here by will and declare that neither shee my said beloved Wife nor her heires Executors or Assignes shall not be chargeable or accompatble with or for any summe or summesof money goods Chattells or other things then such as shall come to her or their hands or custody by vertue of this trust

ITEM I doe here by direct and appoint my loving Samuel Rawstorne of London Merchant and my loving Brother in Law Hugh Strode of London merchant and my brother in Law John Davenport Citizen and Haberdasher of London Overseers of this my Will And I doe hereby grant and will the guardianship and tuition of my said three sonnes into my most deare and entirely beloved Wife Dame Alice Rawstorne intreatting her to take upon her the burden and care thereof

IN WITNESS whereof I the said S:r William Rawstorne have to this my last Will and Testament comprized and written in the six precedent sheets of paper and this parte of a sheet at the topof the first sheete where allare fixed sett my seale and at the bottome of the six precedent sheets set my hand and to this parte of a sheete sette my hand and seale Dated the day and yeare first above written.

Alice Rawstorne one hundred Guineys to buy her a paire of Coach horses as an acknowledgement of her greatt care and paines which is not to be in XXXXXX but by my selfe and for which I hope God Almighty hath a blessing in store for her

ITEM I give and bequeath to my loving daughter in Law AnnaSmithsonne the summe of ffifty pounds of lawfull money of England to lay out in what shee pleases to weare in remembrance of me and Tenne pounds of like money for mourning

ITEM I give and bequeath to my loving Brother Samuel Rawstorne my little Gray mare XXXX horse and tenne pounds for a Ring to weare in remembrance of me and tenn pounds for mourning And to my sister in Law his Wife fforty shillings for a Ring to weare in remembrance of me andsix pounds for mourning

ITEM I give and bequeath to my loving Brother in Law Hugh Strode, Tenne pounds for a Ringto weare in remembrance of me and tenne pounds for mourn ing And tomy loving sister his Wife five pounds for a Ring to weare in remembrance of me and six pounds for mournning

ITEM I give and bequeath to my loving sistersMary and Sarah Rawstorne the summe of five pounds a peice for mourning

ITEM I give and bequeath unto my Sister in Law Hester Rawstorne forty shillings for a Ring to weare in remembrance of me and six poundsfor mourning

ITEM I give and bequeath unto my Brothers in Law M:r Edwin Browne and M:r John Browne of Aleppo five poundsa peice for Rings to weare in remembrance of me and six pounds a peice for mourning

ITEM I give and bequeath unto my Brother in Law M:r John Davenporte Tenne pounds for a Ring to weare in remembrance of me Tenne pounds for mourning

ITEM I give and bequeath unto my Sonne in Law Tenne pounds for a Ring to weare in remembranceof me and Tenne pounds for mourning And to my daughter Elizabeth his Wife Tenne pounds for mourning and five pounds for mourning for their daughter

ITEM I give and bequeath unto my Cousins John Archer and M:rs Mary Browne forty shillings a peice for Rings to weare in remembrance of me

ITEM I give and bequeath To M:r Stanley Minister of Westham five pounds for mourning And to the Poore of Plaistow Ward in the Parish of Westham five pounds to be distributed as my Executrix shall think fitt

ITEM I give and bequeath unto my loving ffreinds M:r Thomas Browne scrivener Twenty pounds To M:r William Millett Tenne pounds ITEM I give and bequeath unto M:r Thomas Browne of Plaistow Twenty shillings for a Ring and five pounds for mourning

ITEM I give and bequeath unto my Nephewes and Neices Jerome Hester and Elizabeth Rawstorne and Hugh Mary Graceand Joane Strode forty shillings a peice for Rings to wearein remembrance of me

ITEM I give and bequeath unto M:r George XXXXXM:r Aron Goodyeare and M:rs Anne ?Lury forty shillings apeice for Rings to weare in remembrance of me

ITEM I give and bequeath unto Mary Davys my Wifes Woman and to Susan Clarke the summe of ffive pounds apeice and three pounds a peice for mourning

ITEM I giveand bequeathunto Charles Phillips five pounds to put him out an apprentice And to the rest of my servants being strangers to me I leave it to my Wife to give them as shee shall thinke fitt
