1. Should pay for the said shipp the Endeavor : and her said lading of wynes, and
2. make satisfaction for the same to the respective Owners thereof, the said De La Vorche
3. and replied that his Owner or Imployer videlicet Monsieur de Meilleraye or the
4. Marechal de la Meilleraye ˹in France˺ was rich ˹and able˺ enough and must, as hee, videlicet the said
5. De La Voche beleeved, pay and make satisfaction for the same, or words to that or
6. the like effect: The premisses hee saith, That hee this deponent personally saw and
7. heard, and therefore knoweth and deposeth the same for a certaine trueth
8. And otherwise cannot depose:-/
9. To the sixth Article hee saith, That after the taking and surprizing of the
10. said shipp Endeavor: and Lading, this deponent and others of
11. his companie being
12. as aforesaid in and aboard the said la Voche his Admirall shipp, did
13. earnestly begg and entreat yee said De la Voche to
14. lett them be Landed on some
15. of the Canarie islands from which they were then not
16. farr remote, and afterwards
17. that they desired the said De la Voche
18. that they might have the boate belonging
19. to the said shipp ye Endeavor to bring them ashoare at the Cape de Verd Islands, but
20. the said De la Voche pemptorily denyed to doe or permitt either of those their
21. humble earnest entreaties, and said hee would not Land this deponent and
22. Companye nor any of them on the Christian shore, because they should not
23. carry newes ˹and notises˺ to England what
24. was become of the said shipp and her Lading
25. or words tending to and importing that or the like effect. Hee further
26. saith that
27. the said De la Voche then also told this deponent and
28. others of his company then on
29. bord him, that hee and his Compannie could not conveniently unladen
30. the said wynes
31. out of the said shipp Endeavor into the said french
32. shipps, and that therefore
33. they would carry ye said shipp along with them and that his said Owner or
34. Imployer was rich and sufficient enough to pay and make satisfaction both
35. for the said shipp Endeavorand her Lading or words of the
36. same or the like
37. purport: The premisses this depo: declared to be true of
38. his containe knowledge
39. by pesonall and sadd experience.And striked through
40. otherwise cannot depose:
41. To the 7th Arle of the said allegation hee saith that after ye
42. surpreviall
43. of the said shipp Endeavor and her lading by the said
44. De la Voche and
45. companine the said De la Voche in the presence and hearing of this depo: and
46. others declared and affirmed , that the said french fleet under his
47. dounnannch
48. had in a hour course from France wett with
49. other English shipps, one
50. whereof they had surprized and taken and afterwards lett her goe free
51. and had not plundered nor taken away or out of her any thing considerable
52. and that hee would not have midred with molested or
53. seized the said shipp
54. Endeavour, if her then lading had not consisted in wynes,

57. France and England was
58. agreed and fourludid upon, and that hee the said

60. stayed severall daies in Vachell in expectation of
