1. belonged to her in former voyages and well knoweth that during the
2. sayd voyage she was a stronge tight and stanch shipp saving ˹he saith˺ that after
3. her taking in her ladeing at Saint Martines arlate (whense shee came in
4. company of seuerall other merchants shipps about the 25th of March last
5. under Convoy of the Saphire ffrigott and Constant Warwick who convoyed
6. there for England till they came upon into the Channel upon the Coast
7. of England to avoide the danger of Dunkirke men of warr and other
8. shipps of warr enimies to this Commonwealth) the weather proved very
9. st very windie ˹and somewhat stormie˺ and the sayd Convoyes making haste to get upon
10. the Coast of England the shipp willing Mynde being desyrous to keepe
11. company with the sayd Convoyes to avoide danger of surprizall by
12. enymyes the Company of the sayd shipp desyred the Convoys to slacken
13. their sayles somewhat, that they might might the better keepe Company with them
14. but the Convoyes being shorte of victualls (as they sayd) and desyrous
15. to come as soone as they could upon the English Coast, did not slack their
16. sayles, soe that the shipp Willing mynde was forced to beare sayle
17. more then ordinary to X enioye the benefit of their convoy and company,
18. and by that meanes of soo having sayles hee saith the sayd shipp willing
19. minde was soe streyned that shee thereby proved leakie and looke in or
20. made much water, which the sayd shipps XXX company could in noe
21. wise prevent though they did their true endeavour at the pumpe to keep
22. her as drye as possible they could, and plyed the pumps constantly of
23. this deponents sight and knowledge, soe that in case any damage did happen
24. to any of her lading the same was not occasioned by any defect
25. or insufficiencie in the sayd ship ˹or fault or inglert of her Company˺ but meerely by her soe bearing
26. sayle to keep company with the sayd Convoyes and avoide the danger of
27. surprizall as aforesayd And he saith it is usuall that laden shipps
28. if they bee forced to brace more sayle then ordinary ˹to keepe company as the Willing Minde then was˺ (though otherwise they
29. bee tight) doe prove leakie with over bearing of sayle and the same cannot
30. bee by their Masters and Companyes avoided And further to these articles hee
31. cannot depose./
32. To the 5th hee saith that being Masters mate aboard as aforesaid the voyage
33. in question hee well knoweth the sayd shipp Willing mynde by such her
34. bearing sayle more then ˹ordinary˺ ordXXX did keepe with the sayd Companyes till
35. shee came in the Channell by which meanes she was freed from
36. danger of men of warr and arrived in safety in the port of London saving
37. for what harme happened to her or her ladeing by bearing sayle as aforesayd,
38. sXXing hee be and saith if shee had not soe borne sayle and by that meanes
39. kept company with the sayd Convoyes shee had bin in great danger to
40. have bin surprized by men of warr of Dunkirke and other places and to have
41. bin wholly lost shee and her lading And farther hee cannot depose/
42. To the last hee saith his foregoeing deposition is true
