Biographical synthesis
Anthony Sola (b. ca. 1631; d. ?). Mariner.
One of the company of the Dolphin.
Resident in 1654 in Dunkirk in Flanders.
Evidence from High Court of Admiralty
Twenty-three year old Anthony Solda deposed on April 4th 1654 in the High Court of Admiralty. He was examined on interrogatories in the cause of "Pickering and company against the shipp the Dolphin, Christian Sola master".[1]
The case concerned the seizure of the Dolphin, allegedly a ship of Dunkirk, by an English private man of war. The mariners of the Dolphin claimed that their ship was on a voyage from Bordeaux to Danzig with a lading of wines, but the counter claim by the English is that she was bound for the United Provinces.
