Biographical synthesis
John Lacey (b. ca. 1593; d. ?). Mariner.
Gunner and one of the company of the Hopewell (Master: Henry Powell) on her voyage to West Indies, where she was seized by Prince Rupert's fleet at the island of Antego in October 1652.
Resident in 1653 in the parish of Saint Mary Magdalen Bermondsey in the county of Surrey.
Evidence from High Court of Admiralty
Sixty-three year old John Lacey deposed on October 5th 1653 in the High Court of Admiralty. He was examined on an allegation on behalf of Henry Powell, the master of the ship the Hopewell in the cause of "Lewellyn Austen and others against Powell".[1].
The case concerned the seizure of the Hopewell at the island of Antego.
