John Deane (b. ca. 1609; d. ?). Shipwright.
Carpenter on the ship the Samuel on her voyage in September 1656 from Newcastle to London.
Resident in 1656 in Horsey downe in the county of Surrey.
Evidence from High Court of Admiralty
Forty-seven year old John Deane deposed on October 11th 1656 in the High Court of Admiralty. He was examined on an allegation on behalf of William Lee in the case of "A businesse of exámination of witnesses to perpetuall remembrance promoted by William Lee the master of the shipp called the Samuel against Otter, late master of the ship the Providence, and against all other."[1]
The case concerned the collision of the ship the Samuel (Master: William Lee) with a ship whose master was Otter. The ships were both coming together from Newcastle, when on September 6th 1656 they collided.[2]
John Deane attested to the veracity of his evidence, stating "hee knoweth being carpenter of the said shipp the Samuel and then at the helme".[3]
