Other information

Thomas Markland, grocer of London, had family connections with Wigan in Lancashire. A record in the Lancashire Archives dated 1648 mentions Thomas Markland, "citizen and grocer of London", and Mathewe Markland, "gentleman", described as "son and heir of Robert Markland of Wigan, mercer, deceased." George T.O. Bridgeman (1890) list a "Garard Markland Alderman", a "Mathew Markland Alderman" and "Mr. Thomas Markland", all making small monetary gifts to the poor of Wigan.[1]
