In the name of God Amen At [?] the sixth day of January Anno Dom One thousand six hundred eighty two And in the four and Thirtyeth yeare of the Reign of our sovereign Lord Charles the second by the grace of God of England Scotland ffrance and IrelandKing defender of the faith I ffrancis Dashwood of the Parish of S:t Buttolph without Bishops Gate London Esq being in perfect health and memory (thanks bee Allmighty God for the same) and …
..doe make this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following revoking all and every Testament and Testaments will and wills by me heretobefore made and declared either by word or writing notwithstanding any promise to the contrary) or clause dereogatory [?] in the same ffirst I commit my soule to God that gave it and my body to the earth from whence it came to be decently interred in the Parish church of St Buttolph without Bishops gate in such Christian manner as to my Executors hereafter named shall seeme meet and convenient…”
“concerning such Temporall estate as the Lord hath been pleased to bestow upon me (my debts being first paid and funerall expenses discharged) I doe give bequeath and dispose the same in manner following. Imprimis I give and bequeath unto ffrancis Dashwood eldest sonne of my sonne Samuel Dashwood five hundred pounds To George one other of the sonnes of my said sonne four hundred pounds To Thomas his youngest sonne Three hundred pounds to Elizabeth daughter of the said Samuel five hundred pounds ToSusan one other of his daughters four hundred pounds and to Jane his youngest daughter three hundred pounds And it is my will that all the six Legacies be paid out of the last money that will be due to me by Articles of Agreement between my selfe and my said sonne Samuel and sonne ffrancis and that if any of my said six Grand children shall happen to depart this life That xxx the Legacie or Legacies here by given to such of them soe dying or soe much thereof as shall be unpaid shall be equally divided between the survivors of them
ITEM I give to my Grand daughter Martha Coppin [?] One thousand pounds (that is to say) five hundred pounds at the day of her marryage if she be marryed and not else) and five hundred pounds within one yeare then next following Provided she marry by the consent and approbacon (sic) of my Executors or Overseers or any two or more of them
ITEM I give and bequeath to my Grandaughter Anne one thousand pounds (that is to say) five hundred pounds at the day of her marryage if she live and be marryed and not else) and five hundred pounds within one yeare the next following provided shee marry by such consent and approbacon as aforesaid
ITEM I give to my Grand daughters Lettice Elizabeth and Sarah Coppin [?] six hundred pounds apeece when and if they shall respectively marry) And in case one of them shall dye unmarryed That then the six hundred pounds of her soe dying shall be equally divided between the survivors of them But in case two of my said three Granddaughters shall dye unmarryed I will that the survivor shall have the sume of twelve hundred pounds and noe more and that for her or their porcons (sic) shall be payable in manner following (that is to say) halfe thereof at her or their respective dayes of marryage and the other halfe at the end of the yeare then next following upon condicon (sic) that shee or they respectively marry by such consent and approbacon (sic) as aforesaid And my Will is that if my said Granddaughters Martha Anne

Lettice Elizabeth and Sarah shall not be marryed before shee or they respectively shall attaine the age of one and twenty yeares That then from and after such her or their age untill her or their marryage shee or they shall have interest for what I have given her or them respectively after the rate of six pounds per Cent per Annum
ITEM I give and bequeath unto my Grandsonns ffrancis Robert and Samuel Coppin to each of them six hundred pounds to be paid them as they shall attaine their respective ages of one and twenty yeares and I leave it to the discretion of my Executors to pay all or any of them sooner either in whole or in part as they shall find good opportunity for their preferment before that time and in case any of them shall dye before they attaine their respective ages of one and twenty yeares then four hundred pounds part of the six hundred pounds soe given shall goe to my Executors hereafter named but if all of them save one shall depart this life before they attaine such age Then I will and devise to such one survivor twelve hundred pounds and noe more to be paid unto him at the age of one and twenty yeares or sooner at the pleasure of my Executors of they find some good opportunity as aforesaid But my will and meaning is that in case my Executors shall think fit to supply any of them with any part of their Legacies and that such of them soe supplyed shall dye before hee or they shall attaine the said age that the money paid to him or them soe dying shall be allowed my Executors out of the remainder of his or their Legacie which shall remaine unpaid) by the survivor or survivors of them
ITEM I give to my grandsonn John Coppin eldest sonne of my sonne John Coppin and of Mary his wife my daughter One hundred pounds when and if hee shall attaine the age of one and twenty yeares or sooner at the pleasure of my Executors and Overseers
ITEM I give to my daughter Mary Coppin one hundred pounds to be paid her within one yeare after my decease if shee soe long live
ITEM I give to my daughter Sarah wife of my Lord Brookes one hundred pounds to be paid unto her three yeares after my decease if shee so long live and to each of the Children of my said Lord Brookes begotten of my said Daughter that shall survive me the summe of four hundred pounds and my will is that the four hundred pounds hereby given to the eldest of them (being ffrancis my Godsonne) shall be paid at the end of one yeare next after my decease And that the severall Legacies hereby given to the rest of them shall be paid to each of them yearly one after an other severally and successively according to their seniorities by four hundred pounds per Annum after the end of the first yeare if they respectively shall soe long live
ITEM I give to my Grandsonn Lewis Roberts eight hundred pounds to be paid unto him when he shall reach the age of one and twenty yeares or sooner if my Executors shall think it convenient for him Provided that hee the said Lewis when hee shall attaine the said age doe sell & convey or doe joyne in the sale or conveyance of all his ffathers late real estate in Houses Lands and Rents and apply the moneys thereby raised and all such mean Rents and profitts as hee is or shall be intitled to and shall or may recover and receive from the death of his said father until such sale for and towards the xxxxx and dischargeing of all such Debts as his ffather had at the time of his decease and of all such money as have been advanced by me or any other person or persons for and towards the payment of the same with interest or otherwise pay and discharge the same

six hundred pounds to be paid unto him when hee shall attaine the age of one and twenty yeares of hee soe long live or sooner by the discretion of my Executors and upon the Provisos menconed to be performed by the said Lewis in case the said Lewis shall dye before the performance there of But if the said Gabriel dye before hee attaine that age Then my will is that his Brother Lewis shall instead of eight hundred pounds have twelve hundred pounds to be paid unto him at the age and under the Provisos aforesaid
ITEM I give to my daughter Martha Roberts six hundred pounds to be paid unto her within four yeares after my decease or sooner of her occasions require and my Executors can conveniently pay it

ITEM I give to the Sadlers Company Tenne pounds for a dinner to be kept three monthes after my decease and thirty pounds to be distributed by the Master Wardens and Assistants of the said Company among such Poore Housekeepers as are free of the same
ITEM I give to the Poore of the said Parish of St Botolph without Bishopsgate four shillings every Week to be laid out in two dozen of wheaten bread to begin six months after my decease and to be continued for seaven yeares then next following
ITEM I give to the Weavers Company Thirty pounds viz:t Tenne pounds to be spent in a dinner in four months after my decease and twenty pounds to be given to such Poore of the said Company as the Master Warden and Assistants shall think fit which said thirty pounds I will shall be paid in four months after my decease
ITEM I give to twenty such Minister as my Executors shall see cause (wether Conformists or Non Conformists) the sume of four hundred pounds to be equally divided between them by my Executors They taking advice of some other Ministers to have the best informacon they can for the better bestowing it upon those that have small means of living
ITEM I give to M:r Rowland Salmon five pounds to buy him a Ring and twenty pounds to bestow upon such persons as hee knoweth to be indigent in such propocons as himselfe shall thinke fitt
ITEM I give to Doctor Yettis Ritter (?) of the said Parish of S:t Botolph without Bishopsgate to preach my funerall sermon eight Guinneys To M:r Goodwin his Curate five pounds To the Clerke of the said Parish forty shillings To M:r Mulford sexton of the same Parish fforty shillings To M:r Pelling M:r Ridder M:r Xrot and M:r Smithee Ministers and to S:r Hesketh Minister of S:t Hellens London to each of them five pounds to buy them a Ring
ITEM I give to S:t Bartholomews Hospitall two hundred pounds to be paid in ffifteene months afeter my decease To Christs Hospitall Two hundred pounds to be paid within one yeare then next following To Bridewell Hospitall Two hundred pounds to be paid within one yeare then next following and to S:t Thomas Hospitall two hundred pounds to be paid within one yeare and a halfe then next cuming All which severall sumes of money by me before bequeathed to the severall hospitalls my will and meaning is shall be paid to and disposed of by the respective Governo:rs of each respective House
ITEM I give to my Apprentices that shall live with me at my death whose Apprenticeshipp shall then be unexpired Twenty pounds apeice to be paid unto them six months after the expiracon of the terme of such their Apprenticeshipps
ITEM I give to such who shall be Apprenticed to and in the service of my said sonne ffrancis at the time of my decease five pounds to be paid unto them at the expiracon of their Apprenticeshipps
ITEM I give to Elizabeth my maid (if liveing with me at my death) Tenn pounds To M.rs Cozoe ?? if living with me at my decease six pounds and to any other Maids that shall be in my service when I dye three pounds apeice

ITEM I give to each of the rest of my Cozen Chandlers Children forty pounds to be paid them as there may be a good occacion to prefer them to some way to live in the world or for their educacon and to be secured from any other person whatsoever but only for their own proper use excepting George who is likewise under the tuition of my said Brother George
ITEM I give to my Cozen Heyes his sonne ffrancis sixty pounds and to his sonne William One hundred pounds which I desire may be served and paid to their proper uses when my executors see well opportunities to lay it out for their own preferm:t
ITEM I give to my Cozen Anne Tobxx Mother of the said ffrancis and William Twenty pounds to be paid into her own hands to dispose as shee alone shall think fit And my will is that her receipt alone without her husband shall be sufficient
ITEM I give to the Poor of the parish of Mortlack Tenne pounds tro be laid out in Twopenny Wheaten bread soo much every Sabbath day as the Churchwardens and Overseers of the said Parish for the time being (with the advice and approbateion of my said sonne Samuel) think fit till Tenne pounds be fully laid out
ITEM I give to Samuel Waist five pounds to buy him a Ring
ITEM I give to the Porters that ply at Bishopsgate viz:t To Walter Linsey fforty shillings To Henry twenty shillings to William Hester Twenty shillings and to the rest that constantly ply there tenne shillings apeice
ITEM I give to M:r Overberry upper Beadle of Bishopsgate Parish Twenty shillings and to the Under Beadle Tenne shillings
ITEM I give to my Cozens John Sweeting Richard Sweeting John Gate Daniel Chandler and Maurice Cobey (or Tobey) Twenty shillings apiece to buy them Rings and to Cozen Abraham Dashwood fforty shillings to buy him a Ring
ITEM I give ffifty pounds per Annm for Tenne yeares to be paid quarterly by my Executors to an able Minister other than the Minister of the parish of Stoqumber in the County of Somerset (where I was borne) to preach a sermon in the said Parish Church every Saterday in the forenoone before the markett begins. And it is my Will and Desire that the Minister that shall preach the said Lecture shall be nominated by my Cozen Lewis Sweeting and Cosen Dashwood of Hollawood (if then liveing) and others of my Relacons and such others who have borne the Offices of Churchwarden and Overseers of the Poore of the said Parish And my will is that the said Lecture doe continue for Tenne Yeare after it is set up and Doe hope that the Parish will continue it for many yeares after And further it is my will that the said Lecture besetup and established within six or nine not exceeding twelve Monthes after my Decease
ITEM I give and bequeath to the Poore of the said Parish of Storumber the summ of forty pounds to be distributed by the Churchwardens and Overseers and my Relacons of the said Parish
ITEM I give to my sonne Samuel and his family for mourning fiftie pounds To my Lord Brooke and his family sixty pounds, To my sonne Lewis and his sonne Twenty pounds To my Daughter Roberts and her sonne Twenty five pounds To my Grandson Whitly (sic) and his Wife Twenty pounds To my sonne Thomas and his Wife Twenty pounds To her Mother to buy her a Ring five pounds To my soone ffrancis Tenne pounds And to my sonne and daughter Coppin and family ffifty pounds
ITEM I five to the Poore of the Towne of XXXXXXXX[??Chesterfield] Thirty pounds to be disposed of by the advice and direcion of Alderman Thomas Wright Alderman Xow Alderman Hollinshead M:r Samuel Mortershead (?) and M:r Charles Yarwood
ITEM I give to the Persons last above menconed to provide a dinner in Blackleefeilde (??) aforesaid in six monthes after my decease for as many of our Customers as we deale with there or else where thereabouts that will please to come to it the sume of fifteen pounds

ITEM whereas I have already given my sonn Thomas six Thousand pounds for his advancement I doe give and bequeath unto him the further sum of Two thousand pounds to be paid unto him by One Thousand pounds a yeare within two yeares next after my decease or sooner by the discretion of my Executors and Overseers if they find hee shall have occasion and belike to make Improvemen:t of it Provided I doe not make him the said Two Thousand pounds before I dye And my Will and desire is that there may be laid out in and about my funerall soe much as will decently bury mee and noe more And I doe make my said sonns Samuel and ffrrancis Dashwood Executors of this my last Will and Testament to whom I doe give all the residue of my Personall Estate to be equally divided between them And I doe hereby declare that what I have heretofore and by this my Will given to my Children is and shall be in full satisfaction and discharge of all such Customary part and Orphanage and of other part share claime and demand as they respectively could can or may have or claime out of my personall estate by the custome of London or by any contract or Agreem:t otherwise howsoever And lastly I desire my loving Brother George my sonne Thomas Dashwood M:r James XXXX and my Cosen Abraham Dashwood to be Overseers of this my last Will and Testament and for their paynes in being instrumentall to see my Will executed I give to each of them twelve Guinneys to be paid unto them at the discrecion of my Executors In witnesse whereof to two Writings each of them containing my whole Will and each of them written upon Tenne sheets (and part of a sheet) of paper both of them being of One Tenor I have sett my hand and seale that is to say my hand to each sheet and my seal at the top of the first sheet upon a Ribbon which fastens the sheets together.
