Transcription

1. To the second and third hee cannot depose, saving as aforesaid

To the Interrogatories [CENTRE HEADING]

4. To the first hee answereth negatively to every part thereof.

5. To the second hee saith that hee first knew the said shipp the Hope about
6. a yeare and halfe since, at Dunkirke which was the time hee soe sawe her
7. at Dunkirke. And saith hee last sawe her on friday last lying in the
8. River of Thames, and that shee seemeth to him to be hollands-built
9. And otherwise cannot answer, saving as aforesaid.

10. To the third hee saith hee doth not know the owners of the said shipp
11. Hope, nore where they dwell, nor whose subiects they are, And
12. otherwise hee cannot answer

13. To the fourth, and fifth and 6th hee answereth negatively.
14. To the 7th hee saith hee was borne betwixt Antwerp and Lille,
15. in the Dominion of the States of the United Netherlands, and is nowe their
16. subiect, living at Middleborowe, where hee keepeth house and
17. familie and hath soe donne for theise tenn yeares last, and that
18. hee is a Skipper, and liveth by that Imployment, and beareth
19. part of her common XXpes and burthens.

20. To the 8th negatively.

21. To the 9th hee saith that if the same person that soe was fitting
22. out the said shipp from Dunkirke about a yeere and halfe since, bee
23. the master that brought her thither, hee beleeveth hee XXXX knowe
24. him XXXll if hee should see him again, And otherwise hee cannot
25. answere

Miles Pyle of Dartmouth Mariner, aged
50 yeeres or thereabouts, sworne and exámined

42. To the first árticle hee saith that hee well knoweth the shipp the
43. Palm tree last X arlate and hath soe donne for this foure yeeres, last
44. or thereabouts, and alsoe well knoweth the producents ˹Joseph Cubit˺ and Company
45. arlate, who for two yeeres last past and upwards have as hee saith bin
46. and at present are the true and lawfull owners and Proprietors of the
47. said shipp the Palme tree, and of her tackle, apparell and furniture
48. and for such coomly accompted. And further that about foure
49. monethes since the said shipp was by the said Cubit and company set out
50. and furnished from Dartmouth on a voyage upon their owne account
51. for ffrance, to lade salt and other goods and therewith to retourne to Dartmouth
52. to discharge the same for the account aforesaid, which hee knoweth being
53. present at Dartmouth, and seeing her soe set out, and having interest therein
54. And otherwise cannot depose.
