Transcription

1. deponent did by vertue of a power from William Coles, William
2. Pouchoune and Simon kelsey Marchants of Southampton make a stop ˹at Sevill˺ of
3. thirtie nine thousand Rialls of plate which were in the hands of William
4. Pridaux and company Marchants of Sevill, which was then to be recovered
5. by Captaine William knowles XXXX ˹late˺ Commander of the shipp ffrancis
6. of Southampton, who was surprized by the dutch and this money came to
7. Sevill to recover this money for Assurance of his said shipp and goods,
8. and had recovered three and twenty thousand Rialls of plate ˹thereof˺ this being
9. the Remainder, and by consent of the said knowles this deponent was to
10. recover it for the account of the above mentioned merchants of Southampton;
11. And this this deponent declareth that hee know noe other interessed
12. in the said jurneys then the above mentioned marchants of Southampton,
13. although Captaine William knowles hath since pretended severall
14. other of his owners to be interessed in the said summe, pretending some
15. papers wherein they were equivocally mentioned, but saith that the
16. intent of these papers were only to expresse the interest of the
17. above mentioned merchants of Southampton, who were both owners and
18. freighters, not intending any other of the owners XX who were to
19. be satisffied out of the moneys particularly recovered by the said knowles
20. who was their sevant, this deponent not knoweing any other man
21. and soe hee conceiveth not impowered to recover any other mens
22. money.

31. hilliard of London Goldsmith aged 40 yeares or
32. thereabouts made upon and to certain Interrogatories
33. ministred on the behalfe of Richard Batson administrator
34. of ffrancis fford, followe.
35. To the first Interrogatorie hee answereth and saith that hee knew
36. the interrogated ffrancis fford deceased, and saith the said fford about six
37. yeeres space together and to the time of this deponents comming from
38. the Barbada's (which was about three yeares since) lived in a house ˹at or˺ neere
39. the Indian Bridge there, which house was commonly reputed to be the
40. interrogated mr Batsons house, but whether hee the said fford was his the
41. said Batsons servant or apprentice, or ˹were˺ his factor or agent at the time
42. of his death, this deponent saith hee knoweth not, and therefore cannot
43. answer further to this Interrogatorie.
44. To the second hee answereth and saith that hee this deponent hath knoweth
45. the interrogated ffrancis fford for the space of tenn yeares or thereabouts
46. next before his death; And saith that hee this deponent hath had
47. severall dealings with the said fford for severall merchandizes as tobaccos
