and a third against the Enimyes of this Commonwealth
and that the said Samuel Stanton arlate had the said
Commissions aboard him and undertooke to putt them in
execution for and on the behalfe of the arlate Rich and
Company, The premisses he knoweth being (as he hath
predeposed) Gunner of teh said shipp the voyage in question
did see the said Commissions aboard her, And further to
the said articles (referring himselfe to the Charter party
arlate) he cannot depose

To the fourth article, he referreth himselfe to the Charter oarty
arlate And further he cannot depose

To the fifth and sixth articles he deposeth and saith That
the arlate shipp the Elzabeth did depart from Gravesend
upon the said warlike voyage upon or about the sixth day
of December 1651, and that at that time the arlate
Stantonhad the said Letters of Reprizall or Commissions
aboard him, and that the said shipp had victualls and
other provisions at such her departure from Gravesend
for 140 men for three months at least, And further
he cannot depose.

To the seaventh

To the eighth, ninth and tenth articles he deposeth and saith
That the arlate Robert Rich did of this deponents knowledge
come to the Isle of Wight while the said shipp the Elzabeth
then lay about the latter end of December 1651, and that
about the midst of January 1651 the sayd Rich did give
order and direction unto the sayd Samuel Stanton to
proceed to Sea upon teh said warlike designe, and that
then this deponent was oe amongst many others of the
sayd shipp the Elzabeths Company, who subscribed to a
writing declaring his this deponents and the rest of the
subscribed their willingness to goe out to Sea upon the said
imployment, and that the said Captaine Stanton then refused
to goe, and stayd and kept the said man of warr there in
the Isle of Wight untill the beginning of June 1652
