1. To the first and second articles of the sayd allegation hee saith that hee this
2. deponent is an Agent or Broaker betweene Merchant and Merchant upon the Exchange
3. London, and by that meanes was in the moneth of September arlate and upon or about
4. the fowerth day of the same imployed by the arlate Maurice Thompson who
5. was then the Owner and in peaceable possession of a certayne parcell of pepper
6. not long before brought from the Indies and consigned to the said Maurice
7. to sell the same and by order from the sayd Maurice did upon or about the sayd fowerth day of September sell part of the sayd pepper
8. (videlicet forty baggs thereof amounting to the summe (as hee remembreth) of five hundred seaventy
9. odd pounds sterling the particuler summe hee doth not at present more certainly
10. remember, but for more certaynty referreth him selfe unto the bill of parcells
11. touching the sale thereof, unto the arlate Giles
12. Vanderpost, upon condition that hee should pay ready money for the same at
13. or upon the deliver thereof, And that hee was ordered by the sayd Thompson
14. to sell the same for ready money and not otherwise, And further to those
15. articles hee cannot depose./
16. To the 3 article hee saith saving his foregoeing deposition hee cannot depose
17. knowing nothing touching the carrying the sayd forty baggs of pepper out of
18. the warehouses of the sayd Thompson nor touching their delivery aboard the
19. shipp Reformation./
20. To the 4th hee saith hee cannot depose./
21. To the 5th hee saith hee referreth him selfe to the Registry of this Court
22. and further cannot depose./
23. To the 6th hee saith hee referreth him selfe to the Civill lawes of this
24. Nation and further hee cannot depose./
25. To the last hee saith his foregoeing deposition is true and further hee
26. cannot depose./

George Papillon of London Merchant aged thirty
five yeares or thereabouts a wittnesse sworne and
examined saith and deposeth as followeth videlicet./
36. To the first and second articles of the sayd allegation hee saith that hee
37. this deponent being an Agent for the arlate Maurice Thompson and
38. imployed by him in the moneth and tyme arlate to keepe his warehouse
39. in London and receive in and deliver out goods there, therby knoweth that in
40. the tyme arlate and in the moneths of July of August one thousand
41. sixe hundred fifty sixe hee this deponent did receive by order of the sayd
42. Mr Thompson out of the shipp Adventure (Captaine Joseph Taylor
43. Commander) a certayne parcell of pepper sent from India and consigned
44. to the sayd Mr Thompson, and that the sayd Thompson in the tyme arlate was
45. the lawfull Owner and in quiett and peaceable possession of the sayd parcell of pepper
