forsooke the sayd vessell John and Ellizabeth and runne on board the supplie and
sayled away therein and cam noe more aboard the John and Elizabeth by meanes
whereof the say(d) vessell the John and Elizabeth (as the report was at St Lucar)
drove up and downe at sea for many dayes in great Hazard with only the sayd
Keane and his mate and a boy on board and without masts or other helpe to bringe her safe
to land And this deponent saith that hee seeing her the John and Elizabeth soone after
her arrivall at St Lucar well sawe and observed that shee was then in such ill
condition and soe dammified that shee was not fitt to proceede upon any voyage
without being repaired and new mariners provided to navigate her And
further to theses articles hee cannot depose/
To the 6th and 7th 8th and 9th articles hee saith that the shipp or vessell
the John and Elizabeth was in repayreing whilst this deponent stayed
at St Lucar, and saith that of his this deponents sight and observation Mariners
were then very scarce at St Lucar, and hardly any to be gott to goe upon
any voyage whatsoever and the sayd Keane sick on shoare And further to these articles hee cannot depose
for that hee came from St Lucar before the John and Elizabeth was ready to come
from thence./
To the 10th hee saith hee well knweth the arlate Peter Proby and Edward
Watts and saith hee beleaveth, they are English men borne, and saith they bare commonnly reputed
Merchants of good Accompt in St Lucar
