Transcription

Netherlands which hee knoweth by the longe and frequent correspondance
hee hath had with them thence, And otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the thirteenth article hee saith and deposeth that the arlate Manuel
Martinez Madina was and is a Portugese borne and for such commonly
accompted, and an Inhabitant of Lisbone and a subiect of
the kinge of Portugall and for such alsoe commonly reputed, and a
marchant of good accompt, and a frequent trade from Lisbone to
Roane and Amsterdam, which hee knoweth having correspondance
with him thence, and having soe had for many yeeres past. And
otherwise hee cannot depose, saving the said Jeronimo Nunez da
Costa at Amsterdam was and is the correspondent of the said Manoel
and for such they were and are commonly accompted and reputed, And
otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the Interrogatories. [CENTRE HEADING]

To the first hee saith hee is a Portugese borne, but hath dwelt
in London theise 20 yeares last or thereabouts, and otherwise negatively
saving his foregoeing deposition to which hee referreth himselfe.

To the second hee saith the said diego ffernando Lemos is a native
of Portugall, and soe are all the rest of the said claimers as hee beleeveth,
only hee doth not knowe but that Jeronimo Nunez da Costa was borne
at Amsterdam of Portugall parents; and otherwise hee referreth himselfe
to his foregoeing deposition.

To the third hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition, and otherwise hee
cannot answer.

To the fourth, 5th and 6th hee referreth himselfe to his foregoing
deposition and cannot otherwise answer, for hee this deponent was not in the
voyage nor sawe any of the goods provided or laded.

To the 7th hee saith the interrogated Alfons[?e] Suarez is a maried man, and
keepeth his wife and familie in Roane in ffrance, and soe hath donne
theise tenn yeares and upwards, And otherwise hee referreth himselfe to his
foregoing deposition, and saving the same cannot further answer.

To the 8th hee referreth himselfe to the bills of lading, and cannot
otherwise answer.

To the 9th hee answereth negatively, verily beleeving the goods claimed
to be really belonging to the said producents [?at] this present.

To the 10th negatively, referring himselfe to his foregoing deposition.

To the 11th hee berily beleeveth the bills of lading interrogated to be true and
reall, and noe way fictitious.

To the 12th hee referreth himselfe to his foregoing deposition and otherwise negatively

To the thirteenth hee saith that the said advice was by letters which hee
this deponent received from Amsterdam, and that as hee remembreth
it was in May last that hee received the same. And otherwise hee cannot
answer saving as aforesaid, saving hee was not present at the writing
thereof.

To the fourteenth hee cannot answer.

To the 15. 16. 17 and 18 hee cannot answer saving as aforesaid, not being
in the voyage, nor knowing ought thereof otherwise then as aforesaid.
