Biographical synthesis

Lewis Walter (b. ca. 1619; d. ?). Mariner.

Steward of the Bantam ffrigot on her voyage to Bantam in the East Indies in 1656 and 1657.

Resident in 1659 in Deptford in the county of Kent.

Evidence from High Court of Admiralty

Forty year old Lewis Walter deposed on March 25th 1659 in teh High Court of Admiralty. He was examined on an allegation on behalf of Sir John Dethicke, Edward Bolle, John Bancks, Richard Foord, Edward Mico, William Pretman and company in "A business of the examination of Witnesses on the behalfe of Sir John Dethick Knight, Edward Bolle, John Bancks Richard ffoord, Edward Mico, William Pretman, and company concerning the seizure, and for some time detention and the hinderance of the trade in a certaine ship called the Bantam ffrigot whereof Isaac Taylor was master and comander and such of the lading as was aboard the said ship in ffact but unduly made by Antonie Van Voorst captaine and comander of the ship the Turtle Dove in the imediate service of the Dutch East India Company and alsoe Concerning all damages happening thereupon and against one John Mait Suijker the now, or late Generall of the said company at Battavia in the East Indias against the said Van Voorst in particular and all others the will take upon them the justification of the said Busines".[1]
