Evidence from High Court of Admiralty
Fifty-one year old Captaine John Cramp deposed on December 29th 1654 in the High Court of Admiralty. He was examined on interrogatories on behalf of William Courteene and company "On the behalfe of William Courteene and company touching the Increase of London, John Cramp Comander and the George of Jersey, William Belin master."[1]
John Cramp stated that he had been the commander of the ship the Consent of London for two years before her seizxure by the Spanish in 1642. He also knew the ship the Saint George of Jersey (Master: William Belin) for three months before her seizure. The former ship was owned by William Courteene and company and the latter by John Ballehache and company.[2]
