there till the seaventh day of the said moneth, and then and there the Master
and Companie of the said ship or Vessell the William and James
did unrig the fore-topman of their said ship, and putt on a new capp
upon it, and in the afternoon of the same day, the said ship William
and James, and the Dove as aforesaid with some other English Vessells
sett saile from Winterton roade aforesaid, and that night passed the
place called the Well, but this deponent saith, That in such their passage he did not [?there] see nor heare of any damage done by the sayd Vessell
the dove to the ship Successe arlate, neither indeed did hee this deponent
then see the said ship Successe, nor hath hee ever knowne her
And further cannot depose./
To the 10th hee saith, hee never heard any words proceed from the
arlate Cable or Companie to the effect arlate. And further cannot
depose./
To the rest of the articles hee deposeth not by the producents direction./

To the first hee saith, hee cometh to be a Wittnesse of what he knoweth
in this Cause by the procurement and at the request of the late Master of
the said Vessell Successe, who hath given him twelve pence for his
paines, and that hee is not promised, nor expecteth any more. And
otherwise then negatively hee cannot further depose./
To the second hee saith, hee referreth himself to his foregoeing deposition, And
otherwise cannot depose./
To the third hee saith, hee knoweth not how farr over the place the
Well interrate is, but saith the night in question when they passed the
same was neither very darke nor very light, as hee remembreth
