To the 7th hee saith that hee well knoweth that the sayd Henry Rankin came from
Scotland to ffrance in a vessell of his owne (called the John of Kirkcaldee [?XXXXXX] and arrrived at haverdegrace on the
fifth of June last which was about a moneth or somwhat lesse before hee [?XXX]
the Saint Peter aforesayd, and saith his the sayd Rankins vessell hee [?went in ?was]
laden with [?SXXry] [?Cole], but by the negligence of his pilott thereof the sayd vessell was much dammaged
at the entrance into the harbour there, soe that shee was not fitt to goe to sea, by
reason whereof the sayd Rankin sold her and her lading and bought the Saint Peter
and her lading [?XXed] in her with the proceede thereof as hee beleeveth, this hee the better knoweth for that hee t[?then GUTTER]
went with the sayd Rankin in the sayd shipp the John of Kirkcaulde to haverdegrace
whether shee was convoied from the downes by a ffrigott of this Commonwealth
named the Yarmouth ffrigott And further hee cannot answere/

The answer of the foresaid John du Sel to the Interrogatories [CENTRE HEADING]
To the first hee answereth that hee is a native of haver de Grace
and was in the said shipp when shee was seized by the Portsmouth frigot
and hath lived all his time at haver de Grace saving when hee hath
bin in voyage, and otherwise negatively saving his foregoeing deposition to
which hee referreth himselfe.
To the second hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition, and otherwise
cannot answer:
To thge third hee saith that the money that this deponent sawe paid to
the said Gilbert Pape by the said Rankins in part of payment for his
said shipp, was soe paid at the house of the said Mr Pape in
haver de Grace, the sonne of the said Mr Pape being then alsoe
present, And otherwise saving his foregoeing deposition hee cannot depose
To the fourth and 5th hee saith hee verily beleeveth that the said Mr Rankin
bought the said shipp for himselfe and not for any other and paid
for her with his owne proper money, and that noe subiect of the
ffrench king hath any interest therein
To the 6th hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition, and cannot
otherwise answer.
To the 7th hee saith the said Rankin arived in a shipp laden with [?coles]
from Scotland at haver de Grace about a moneth or three weekes
before hee bought the said shipp the Peter, and hee beleeveth the
said lading of coales was for his accompt, And otherwise hee cannot
depose saving as aforesaid
